Nancy Rothacker has left her mark on the Dublin Youth Athletics girls lacrosse team for the past 17 years.
DYA invites prospects from kindergarten through high school to join the girls lacrosse team. Nancy became head coach of the program soon after moving to Tartan Fields while her daughter was in first grade.
Nancy has developed her experience with the sport while playing lacrosse in college. After growing up in the east coast, lacrosse became second nature to Nancy. Her uncle played lacrosse and she was exposed to the sport very young.
Nancy started growing the program after stepping into the role of director. She found success after recruiting kids in her daughter’s classes at school. Telling athletes to ask their friends to join the program became a successful tactic for building the team. Nancy grew the program from around 30 kids when she started to over 200 athletes!
While many parents have asked her to coach at the high school level, Nancy is focused on shaping the love children have for the sport from early on. Nancy is proud of the profound impact she has had on the lives of young women after going through her program.
More than anything, the program wants kids to have fun while playing lacrosse at such a young age. Nancy’s goal was for kids to look forward for coming back the following year regardless of whether they won or lost.
Nancy has continued to nurture her relationships with athletes through high school and beyond. She keeps up with them after transitioning to high school and while playing at the college level. The athletes always know that Nancy supports them 100% of the time while playing on the field.
The program has found immense success with helping athletes grow their love for the sport for decades to come. Dozens of athletes have played at the collegiate level after going through the lacrosse programs at DYA!
Nancy’s dedication to building the program from the bottom up defined the success the team has today. She hopes for future coaches to follow suit with her goals for shaping the program. Her leadership will leave a lasting impact on the girls lacrosse team and her legacy will be remembered for decades to come.
To honor Nancy's legacy, the Dublin Jamboree will be named in her honor.
