Project 4031 in Fort Worth, Texas

With four core programs, those facing end-of-life challenges find peace, comfort and unimaginable support.

A Mission of Comfort and Compassion
Fort Worth, Texas-based Project 4031 is a nonprofit with a heartfelt mission: to provide terminally ill children, adults, and their families with peace and comfort as they face end-of-life challenges. By easing financial burdens and fulfilling final dreams, the organization offers dignity and support during one of life’s most vulnerable seasons.

Their services are completely free and designed to meet the unique emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of those with a life expectancy of six months or less. In collaboration with hospice and medical professionals, Project 4031 offers a lifeline through its four core programs: Funding for Families, Fulfilling Dreams, Three Strands Community Resources, and the Wings Volunteer Program.

Meeting Urgent Needs with Funding for Families
The heart of Project 4031 lies in ensuring families in crisis don’t face unnecessary hardship. Through its Funding for Families program, the organization provides financial assistance to cover essential needs such as housing, utilities, groceries, and basic supplies. This allows families to focus on time with their loved ones instead of worrying about how to keep the lights on or food on the table.

The support is delivered promptly and with compassion, giving peace of mind to families navigating grief and uncertainty. These funds help relieve stress and enable families to prioritize what matters most: connection and comfort in the time they have left.

Fulfilling Final Wishes with Grace
Project 4031 also helps patients realize meaningful last dreams through its Fulfilling Dreams program. These dreams can be as simple as purchasing a recliner so a patient can stay close to family in a shared space, or as significant as arranging travel to visit loved ones one last time.

Each dream is a personal expression of the patient’s wishes, helping them find closure and joy in their final days. The program creates lasting memories for both the patient and their family, offering comfort that outlives the moment.

Building a Stronger Community with Three Strands
The Three Strands Community Resources program extends the organization’s impact by supporting the professionals who serve at the frontlines of end-of-life care. The name comes from Ecclesiastes 4:12—“A cord of three strands is not easily broken”—symbolizing the strength of collaboration.

In 2024 alone, Project 4031 partnered with 34 hospice organizations across North Texas. Through quarterly meetings and educational events like Sunset Suppers, the program fosters a space where care professionals can share challenges, learn from each other, and connect with resources such as legal aid and cancer care support services.

Wings Program: Small Acts, Lasting Comfort
Every Thursday, the Wings Volunteer Program gathers to prepare heartfelt offerings—like cookies, lap blankets, or fresh flowers—that are hand-delivered to local patients and families. These small gifts are tangible reminders that someone cares.

Volunteers who wish to go deeper can join the Share the Care initiative, providing face-to-face companion care for hospice patients. These interactions help enrich the final days of someone’s life, reinforcing Project 4031’s core belief: that no one should feel forgotten at the end.

A Personal Call to Serve
One Wings volunteer, involved since 2022, was inspired by her own background in palliative and end-of-life care. A career shift gave her the flexibility to explore opportunities to give back, and when she learned about Project 4031 through a social media post, the mission felt like a perfect fit.

What began as a weekly act of service soon revealed deeper impact. The patients eagerly anticipate the weekly visits, and even a small gesture—a baked good, a card, a flower—can brighten their day. For this volunteer, the most rewarding part is the joy and connection that comes from simply showing up.
