Stronger Together: A Week That Changed Everything

There is something powerful that happens when a group of individuals commits to showing up, not just for themselves, but for each other.

For Unbroken Spirit’s Adaptive Team 1-26, that commitment was on full display during their recent Phase 2 program in Park City, Utah. What began months earlier as individual work around mindset, purpose, and resilience came to life in the mountains, where those lessons were tested, strengthened, and shared.

Throughout the week, the team took part in adaptive sports including skiing, snowboarding, sled hockey, rock climbing, archery, and more. Each day brought new challenges, new opportunities, and new victories.

On the slopes, Veterans leaned into the present moment. Every run was more than just movement, it was progress. Confidence grew turn by turn, and with each descent came a renewed sense of freedom and control.

On the ice, sled hockey brought energy, competition, and something just as important, joy. There were big hits, plenty of laughs, and a reminder that healing is not only found in hard moments, but in the ability to enjoy them.

Inside, on the climbing wall, the challenge shifted. One hold at a time, Veterans faced hesitation, doubt, and the voice that says “stop”, and chose to keep going. It was not about reaching the top the fastest. It was about trusting the process and committing to the climb.

But as impactful as the activities were, the most meaningful moments often happened in between.

In quiet conversations. Over shared meals. During evening discussions where walls came down and honesty took their place.

This is where the real work happened.

This is where trust was built.

This is where a group of individuals became a team.

One Veteran reflected, “The program brought everything from Phase 1 together. It made me dig deep and think about who I want to be now and in the future.”

Another shared, “What stayed with me most were the moments in between. That’s where I felt the strongest sense of community.”

The program is designed not only to challenge Veterans physically, but to reconnect them to something many have been missing, a team, a purpose, and a belief that they do not have to carry everything alone.

By the end of the week, Team 1-26 left Park City stronger, more connected, and ready for what comes next. But perhaps most importantly, they left knowing they are part of something that continues long after the mountains.

Because this journey does not end here.

As they prepare to enter Phase 3, the focus shifts toward applying these lessons in everyday life, continuing to grow, and stepping into leadership within their own communities.

What they built in Park City is not temporary. It is something they will carry forward, together.
