Finding Ruby
After losing their senior dogs, Larry and Holly had hopes to welcome another dog into their family. Their search began by browsing the McKamey website to see the animals available for adoption, but none stood out. One Saturday, on a visit to PetCo during adoption day hosted by a local rescue the intention was simply to “look.”
Several walks seeing each dog available for adoption, they almost gave up. About to leave, a feeling that none of the dogs were the one they were looking for, at the front Holly spotted an adorable red puppy sitting alone in a cage. Curiously, she asked the staff about her. Her name was Ruby, and she was thought to be a mix between a lab and a golden retriever. Ruby was too young to be placed with the other dogs because she hadn’t received all her shots.
When asked if Ruby was up for adoption and if she could be held, the Trooper’s Treasures representative explained that Ruby was only available to foster as she was not old enough for adoption. Holly fell in love with her instantly, signed the papers to foster in hopes of adopting her, then she took Ruby home. Over four years later, Ruby was officially adopted and is still a cherished member of their family.
Welcoming Charlie
A year after adopting Ruby, the decision was made that she needed a companion. Naturally, returning to PetCo to see what Trooper’s Treasures had available. It took several Saturday visits before they were introduced to Charlie. Holly’s mother owns two chocolate Labradors, which explains Holly’s affection for their goofy and lovable temperament. Although Charlie looked like a chocolate lab, his curved tail and the white stripe across his chest made it clear he was a mix.
Charlie arrives home to see how he and Ruby get along. Right away, Ruby started playing with Charlie. They chased each other, played tug-of-war with toys, and wrestled together. Ruby’s brother had been found. Charlie was named for his chocolate color and the movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. Three years later, Ruby and Charlie are still living their best lives!
What do Ruby and Charlie love about living here?
Their humans live on a one-acre lot which gives them plenty of space to roam. Chasing squirrels and balls are their favorite activities, but they can't contain their excitement when their leaches come out. Excitingly knowing they are about to walk their humans around the neighborhood. Eagerly encountering and greeting the many neighbors, they have become friends with all of them.
Life looks different now!
They found their forever home, but their human siblings, ages 19 and 20, have left the nest. Mom and dad have them so spoiled they even make their food... homemade! Extra cuddles, belly rubs and being lazy is what life is all about!
