Living My “Fur-ever” Dream
A Day in the Life of Demi, the World’s Most Spoiled Rescue!
Paw-don me, I'm just too cute to handle!
My Story Begins
Hi! I’m Demi, a nearly 10-year-old rescue who is, by all accounts, a most fortunate pup. My DNA is a delightful patchwork: Great Pyrenees, Basset Hound, Boxer, and American Bulldog blend together to give me short legs, a sturdy frame, and a guardian’s heart. I cherish my role as protector of my mom and granddaughters, always alert and proud.
Finding My Place
My journey began as a tiny pup at a Putnam County shelter. Soon after adoption, I found myself whisked away to Ooltewah, where life truly opened. In 2015, my mom and her family joined Scott in our beautiful neighborhood, and I was welcomed into a lively household with three canine siblings. There was Louis, an energetic Chihuahua with style to match his namesake, Louis Vuitton. Enzo, the Italian Greyhound, strutted around in sweaters as if he were royalty and very much a Prima Donna. Dolce, my good-natured sister, eyed me warily at first, but time (and a few shared treats) smoothed things over.
Life was noisy, chaotic, and full of the best kind of adventure. Sadly, all three of my siblings have crossed the rainbow bridge, and the house sometimes feels a little too quiet, though the granddaughters always bring joy and laughter.
My Favorite Things
Let’s talk about my passions because, trust me, I have plenty! Twizzlers, especially strawberry ones, are my absolute weakness. If you leave a pack anywhere within my reach, consider them gone. I’m notorious for snatching them right from your hand, and my family jokes I could star in a Twizzlers commercial. When I want a piece, I’ll perch on the couch, sitting as tall as my short legs allow, drool pooling at my jowls until someone gives in.
I’ve always loved showing off that I can give high fives. When I was younger and my hips didn’t ache, I would pop up on my back legs and give you a slap with either paw. These days, I prefer a gentler approach, but my enthusiasm never fades.
And don’t get me started on my homemade meals! If chicken is on the menu, I’m the happiest dog on the planet.
Quirks and Daily Life
Back when Louis and Enzo filled the house with their yappy duet, I’d sometimes channel my best hound dog and break into a full-on “baying” session. It made me feel part of the pack and I do love being part of a pack.
Most days, you’ll find me lounging on the back porch, keeping a watchful eye as people stroll or ride by. I guess you could say I’m a homebody, happiest surrounded by my loved ones and doting on the granddaughters whenever they’re nearby.
Adventures on the Road
But don’t let my love of home fool you. I’m always up for an adventure. When suitcases come out and RV preparations begin, I transform into a shadow, trailing Mom and Dad from room to room. My single greatest fear? Being left behind! At the racetrack, nothing beats riding shotgun on the golf cart; I’d do it all day if I could. Racing weekends bring out the explorer in me, and I soak up every moment of the action.
Walks are another highlight, especially when fresh grass awaits. After a bath, you can count on me rolling with abandon until I smell like the earth again… no fancy perfumes for this pup!
Unique Connections & Growth
I adore people, and I’ve even developed a signature greeting for one of our former neighbors with a little low growl, a wagging tail, and a gentle pull to lead my humans his way. My racetrack manners have come a long way, too; once upon a time, I’d hide out on the motorcoach. Now, I’m the first to join the crew after the races, always on the lookout for stray snacks. Even beach vacations have a special place in my heart, give me a balcony and a view of the ocean, and I’m in my happy place.
Reflections on My Paw-some Journey
My life has been a patchwork of adventures, love, and laughter. From shelter beginnings to living the “fur-ever” dream, I am grateful for every belly rub, every Twizzler, and every moment spent with my family. I may be a mix of many breeds, but my heart is pure and it belongs right here, surrounded by those I love most.
