Meet Ziggy, Salem, Bingo and Chureezo!
Chureezo
If you’ve ever walked by our house, you’ve probably seen (or heard!) our little crew of four - Ziggy, Salem, Bingo, and Chureezo. Each one has their own personality, quirks, and hilarious habits, and life in the Hill Section just wouldn’t be the same without them.
Life in the Hill Section
My family has lived here for about five years, though we’ve been in Manhattan Beach for over a decade. No matter how long we’ve been here, the sunsets still amaze me every single day. And let’s be honest ... dogs + sunsets = pure happiness.
Meet the Pack
- Ziggy (brindle Staffordshire bull terrier mix, 6 years old, male)
My “soul dog.” He weighs 80 pounds but is convinced he’s a 5-pound lap puppy. Ziggy’s hobbies include singing, balancing on his back legs, and clearing the beach of ocean foam… very seriously. - Salem (black Pugador, 5 years old, male)
Salem came into our lives thanks to a last-minute Facebook rescue. He’s the sweetest little licker - if you’ve got skin showing, he takes it as an open invitation to give kisses. - Bingo (white and brown Spaniel mix, 3 years old, female)
I spotted her at Carson Shelter and fell in love instantly. She’s our graceful hurdle queen, able to leap tall fences in a single bound. Her favorite pastime? Chew sticks and sunbathing. - Chureezo (black and brown miniature dachshund, 9 months old, male)
My partner’s dream dog and our only breeder pup, chosen after a long search for a “rescue sausage.” His name is a mashup of “Cassee” (my partner), “churro,” and “chorizo.” He is the most hardheaded, argumentative, and hilarious little guy - and yes, he fully believes rules don’t apply to him.
Their Names, Explained
Ziggy is named after Ziggy Marley, Salem after Sabrina the Teenage Witch’s beloved cat, Bingo in memory of a dog we once had whose name rhymed, and Chureezo… well, what else do you call a little sausage dog with a big attitude?
Favorite Hangouts
The beach is the #1 pick for everyone - Ziggy swims, Salem digs, Bingo sunbathes, and Chureezo sniffs everything in sight. But perhaps their most beloved spot is “Glama’s house” (my mom’s). The moment I say “Let’s go to Glama’s,” the whole crew runs to the door and spins in excitement.
Community Celebs
Downtown Manhattan Beach is another favorite. They strut the streets like they own the place, happily accepting pets and attention from strangers. Ziggy sometimes looks a little sad when people cross the street to avoid him - he knows he looks tough, but he’s truly just a big love bug.
Best Memories
The everyday moments are the best ones: cuddling up on the couch with all four of them snuggled in. It’s a blessing I don’t take for granted.
Editor’s Note: Georgia reminds us - when possible, adopt! But if you do go through a breeder, please research carefully and find one who truly cares for their animals.
