Curb Appeal: The Outback Way

In a community like ours, where curb appeal is everything and yards are more than grass, they’re where kids play, families gather, and evenings unfold on the porch, a healthy lawn is essential. Behind every vibrant flower bed and lush stretch of green is a hidden hero: an irrigation system. And when that system falters, the folks at Outback Irrigation step in, not just to fix the problem, but to give homeowners back their peace of mind.

“We get it,” says Reed Brown, founder of Outback Irrigation. “You want someone who’s going to answer the phone, show up on time, have what they need, and just take care of it. That’s why we call ourselves your ‘no worries’ irrigation solution.”

For Outback Irrigation, this isn’t just a slogan. It’s the heartbeat of their work. Reed’s passion for the green industry began early, learning at his dad’s side. “I started in the green industry 28 years ago, tagging along beside my dad at just eight years old. Back then, we did it all—if it was landscape, we were in it.” That early exposure shaped Reed’s expertise in irrigation, landscaping, and turf care, guidng how he leads the business today.

Reed’s heritage also plays a central role in Outback’s identity. “My history is deeply rooted in Australian culture thanks to my father’s nationality,” he explains. “I come from a hardworking, industrious family that has no quit in them. That drive powered Dad’s landscape business, and it continues today.” In 2022, the family branched into specialized services: Outback Landscape Company continues in landscape and lawn maintenance, while Outback Irrigation focuses solely on irrigation.

Reed’s commitment to service extends beyond his business. He is the Assistant Chief for the Marbury Volunteer Fire Department and the preacher for County Line Church of Christ—roles that reflect his dedication to helping others both on and off the job.

Katie, Reed’s wife, is often the friendly first point of contact for customers. “It’s a pleasure to speak with our customers, get to know them, and do what I can to help them,” she says. “Over the last three years, it’s been truly humbling to see God blessing our business. This wonderful life is centered around God, raising our boys Dawson and Benjamin, and helping Reed run Outback Irrigation.”

What They Do Best
Outback provides complete irrigation solutions—from custom system installations to smart irrigation upgrades with Hunter Hydrawise controllers. They repair broken heads, valves, controllers, and leaks, and perform audits and efficiency checks to fine-tune performance. Seasonal maintenance plans keep systems running smoothly, while drip irrigation options cover flower beds, shrubs, and pots with precision.

By combining professional education with hands-on service, Outback empowers homeowners to feel confident about their system and its impact on their property and the environment. Every system is designed with efficiency in mind, using smart-irrigation technology and modern practices to minimize waste while keeping landscapes healthy. Their goal is to protect one of our most valuable resources—water—without sacrificing results.

That approach has made Outback stand apart in a crowded field. While many companies juggle irrigation alongside other services, Outback’s laser focus allows them to anticipate problems, stay current with new techniques and products, and save customers money.

Even the company’s brand tells a story. The bold orange of their logo comes from the Northern Territory flag in Australia, where the family’s roots lie. “Outback” reflects grit, hard work, and determination, while the “Oi” logo nods to Aussie tradition—a call to get someone’s attention. Customers pay attention because Outback keeps proving they’re worth it.

Looking ahead, the family behind Outback dreams of growth, but never at the expense of their values. “We want to be the company you’re still with 20 years down the road,” Reed says. “That only happens if we stay true to who we are—focused on care, communication, and community.”

The Preserve is known for its stunning lawns and landscaping, and keeping them that way takes an expert touch. Fortunately, Reed’s sons are already learning those same careful, hands-on skills, ensuring the family’s tradition of quality and dedication continues.
