Spotlight on Avery Capehart: Rising Star in Golf and Leadership

At just 11 years old, Avery Capehart has already made a significant mark in her community. Residing in The Resort for the past two and a half years, Avery is a sixth grader at Lake Country Christian School, where she has found her passion for history and developed her skills on the golf course.
Avery’s love for golf began at the tender age of five, inspired by her father, Chris, who introduced her to the game. He would practice with her in their front yard, using a foam ball for chipping practice, all while offering her a playful challenge of hitting him with the ball for a quarter. This early encouragement fostered her competitive spirit, and now Avery proudly plays for the middle school golf team at LCCS.
In addition to her prowess on the course, Avery holds the esteemed title of LCCS Student Ambassador, showcasing her leadership and commitment to her school community. When discussing her love for golf, she says, “It feels so good when you hit a good shot, and half of it is mental. If you believe you can do it, nothing is stopping you.” This mindset has driven her to realize that she can achieve greatness with hard work.
Avery’s journey has not been without its challenges. Her favorite moment in golf came when she acknowledged her potential and the hard work required to reach her goals. “I realized that it’s not impossible; you just have to work for it,” she reflects.
Outside of golf, Avery enjoys playing volleyball and wake surfing at the lake, balancing her sports with time spent with her friends and family. She shares valuable advice for younger children in the neighborhood: “Just because you’re young doesn’t mean you’re not important or can’t do things as well as older people. Keep trying, no matter what.”
Avery maintains a balance between sports, school, and other activities in her life and says, “During school, I focus on completing my homework as much as possible. If I have a day off from golf, I’ll finish all my homework that day to concentrate on other activities later. I also organize my week in advance. If I have a test to study for, I set aside time for that, and if there's a tournament approaching, I make sure to dedicate time for practice.”
Avery admires two people who have significantly influenced her life. The first is her dad, who has always been there for her and whom she looks up to immensely. He encourages her to believe in herself and inspires her to strive for the best version of herself, both as a person and as a golfer.
The second person she admires is her golf coach, Brian. He has been instrumental in her development as a golfer, providing guidance in a way that no one else has. He shows her the potential she can achieve through hard work and dedication, consistently helping her improve her game.
Looking ahead, Avery dreams big. She plans to attend Oral Roberts University and aspires to become a professional golfer like Nelly Korda. After turning pro, she hopes to become a golf coach, helping others develop their skills on the course.
Avery’s family, including her parents, Chris and Amy, her siblings Pierce and Finley, and their beloved dog, Duke, provide strong support as she navigates her passions. With a bright future ahead, Avery Capehart exemplifies determination, resilience, and the spirit of a true champion.
