Fox Valley Wrestling Champion Sets Sights on NCAA Glory and Olympic Dreams
Ohio State Bound Ben Davino
Ben's first ever wrestling tournament, six years old
Ben Davino, an 18-year-old wrestling champion, recently graduated from Saint Charles East High School and is now starting his college journey at Ohio State University, where he is expected to compete in the 133 lbs weight class. Ben has lived in the neighborhood for 17 years and appreciates the strong sense of community it offers.
Ben's wrestling career began at the young age of six when he discovered a natural talent for the sport. Over the years, wrestling has grown from a childhood interest into something that has shaped his life. His dedication and hard work culminated in an extraordinary achievement: winning his fourth state title in IHSA 3A competition. This milestone is particularly significant, as it placed Ben among an elite group of only 14 wrestlers in the 87-year history of the tournament to accomplish such a feat. When Ben finished his senior season in the spring, he had completed a 136 match winning streak to add to his accomplishments. He ended his senior year with a career high school record of 181 wins and 1 loss.
Balancing the demands of school work and sports is no small task, but Ben believes in putting his full effort into everything he does. This approach has not only driven his athletic success but also ingrained in him the importance of earning what you desire. He credits his achievements to the great coaches and mentors he has had throughout his journey, particularly during his high school years.
Looking ahead, Ben has his sights set on winning NCAA Championships and competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. His advice to aspiring young athletes in the neighborhood is simple yet profound: Have fun, work harder than everyone around you, earn your achievements, and always take responsibility for both your successes and failures.
Ben's journey is a testament to the power of determination, perseverance, and the unwavering belief that hard work pays off.
