From Backyard Blitz to Big League Dreams: The Nubin Family's All-Star Journey

The Nubin family, long-time residents of Thornwood, have deep roots in both the local and national sports scenes, thanks to their sons, Tyler and Jordan Nubin. Rodney and Sherese Nubin moved to Thornwood in 2010, drawn by the close-knit community and excellent schools for their children. Originally from Florida and Evanston, IL, respectively, Rodney and Sherese both attended Eastern Michigan University, where they excelled in sports—Rodney in football and Sherese in track. They both earned Bachelor of Science degrees, with Rodney now serving as an Assistant Vice President at RT Specialty and Sherese working as a Senior Liability Claim Adjuster for Auto-Owners Insurance.

Their sons, Tyler and Jordan, have both made significant marks in football. Tyler, 23, was recently drafted by the New York Giants as the 47th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. A standout safety from the University of Minnesota, Tyler is known for his versatility and toughness, traits that impressed the Giants' coaching staff. He played in 55 games at Minnesota, racking up 207 career tackles and a program-record 13 interceptions, cementing his place as one of the top safeties in college football.

Jordan, following in his brother's footsteps, is currently a running back for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. Like Tyler, Jordan is not only an athletic powerhouse but also excels academically, as both brothers have been recognized as All Big Ten Academic scholars. Jordan is set to graduate in December with a degree in Business Marketing, the same field Tyler majored in.

The Nubin brothers’ journey began in South Elgin, where they played football for the South Elgin Patriots, Haines Middle School, and St. Charles North High School. Their parents have been pillars of support, never missing a game and actively helping other parents navigate the college recruiting process—a testament to their commitment to both family and community. Rodney and Sherese are passionate about sharing their knowledge and experiences with other parents who are beginning the recruitment journey for their children. They understand the complexities and challenges of this process and are more than willing to offer guidance, whether it's through one-on-one conversations or more formal mentoring.

“Should anyone have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us,” says Sherese. “We love to share our experience and the things we did to help our children be successful.” This spirit of giving back is central to the Nubin family's values, as they strive to help other families achieve the same level of success and fulfillment that they have experienced.

The Nubin family also includes Blu, their beloved dog. Though their lives are busy with sports and travel, they remain deeply connected to Thornwood, appreciating the community spirit that first drew them to the area. Their story is a shining example of dedication, both on and off the field.
