For many children, the chance to see a kangaroo hop, a llama nuzzle, or a curious goat nibble on a sleeve is something they’ll never forget. That kind of experience is exactly what Corey Hancock wanted to make possible when he took over A Zoo to You in 2016. As the owner of Zoos Are Us Inc., Corey has dedicated himself to creating hands-on educational experiences that spark curiosity and encourage the next generation to care deeply about animals and conservation.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Northern Michigan University and over 15 years of experience working with a wide range of species, Corey brings both expertise and heart to his work. Together with his wife and their two children, Violet (10) and Forrest (6), he has built the largest mobile petting zoo company in the region—one that has earned a loyal following through word-of-mouth and repeat clients.

A Zoo to You offers a variety of unique and engaging services, including mobile petting zoos, pony rides, and reindeer displays. The company travels across the area to schools, libraries, park districts, corporate events, public festivals, and private parties—bringing animals directly to families who may not have access to larger zoos. “Our mission,” Corey says, “is to provide unforgettable experiences and spark the interest and drive to continue the conservation of animals in future generations.”

Like many event-based businesses, A Zoo to You faced tremendous challenges during COVID-19 shutdowns. “It almost caused us to go out of business,” Corey shares, “but we made it through and have never been busier.” Now, his focus is on the next big step: establishing a permanent zoo in the McHenry or Kane County area. His vision includes a family-friendly park with opportunities for overnight camping, night tours, and year-round educational programs—a truly local alternative to Brookfield or Lincoln Park Zoo.

Corey encourages families to spend more time outdoors and engage with nature. “Bring your children outside—to a park, to see animals up close,” he says. “The whole family will build cherished memories together.”
