Young, Focused, and Fearless on the Fairway: Maverick Rhoades

At just 10 years old, Tiburon resident Maverick Rhoades is already developing a strong passion for sports—especially golf. A fourth grader who has lived in the neighborhood since he was 18 months old, Maverick enjoys many of the things that make the community special, including the open fields where he can play with friends and family and the nearby parks he used to walk to when he was younger. Having his best friend living close by is another big bonus.

Maverick stays active year-round, participating in soccer, golf, basketball, and tennis. While he enjoys them all, golf has quickly become his favorite. He first picked up a club at just five years old and immediately fell in love with the game and the challenge of competing. Inspired by professional golfers like Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, Maverick continues to work hard to improve his skills every time he steps onto the course.

One of his proudest accomplishments so far came during a junior league winter event, where he placed second while competing against players older than him. Maverick is also a member of his country club’s interclub golf team, gaining valuable experience and confidence with every match.

Balancing school and sports takes discipline, but Maverick stays organized by setting specific times during the week for both academics and practice. Through sports, he has learned valuable lessons about perseverance and confidence. “Never quit and never doubt yourself,” he says. “If you hit a bad shot, stay positive and focus on the next one.”

Maverick credits his golf coach and mentor, Alex Janssen, for helping him grow as a player. Looking ahead, he hopes to play golf in college. Outside of sports, Maverick also enjoys collecting sports cards and dreams of becoming a marine biologist studying sharks.
