Mason and Lucas Corbin
For brothers Mason and Lucas Corbin, the thrill of racing isn’t just a hobby—it’s a passion that has them chasing speed and big dreams on the track.
Mason, 14, an eighth grader at Aspen Creek Middle School, and Lucas, 13, a seventh grader at the same school, have grown up in the neighborhood and say it’s a great place to call home. Mason appreciates the friendly people around them, while Lucas jokes that one of his favorite things is how close they are to Arby’s.
The brothers race together as Corbin Racing, competing in both Go-Kart racing and the exciting world of Micro Sprint racing. Mason races A Class in his Micro Sprint, while Lucas competes in the Restricted A Class division. Even though they’re teammates, the competition on the track is fierce as each pushes the other to improve.
Both boys started racing at age nine, drawn to the sport for one simple reason: speed. “I like going fast,” Mason says with a grin. His racing heroes include Bobby Pierce and Ricky Thornton Jr. Lucas shares the same love of speed and looks up to professional driver Kyle Larson.
They’ve already experienced impressive moments early in their racing careers. Mason’s favorite milestone so far just happened when he won a national series race in Texas in his micro sprint. Lucas remembers the excitement of his first Micro Sprint race in Washington, Kansas, where he beat 11 other drivers and took home first place. Both boys have multiple track championships for their go-karts.
While races usually take place on weekends, the work doesn’t stop there. The brothers spend time after school maintaining and preparing their karts for the next race.
Both credit mentor Matt Gropp and their dad for helping them grow as racers. Looking ahead, Mason hopes to become a professional super late model driver, while Lucas
dreams of one day driving a sprint car.
Their advice to other young athletes? Mason says, “Never give up and don’t back down.” Lucas adds, “Don’t be scared.”
