For the past 18 years, this family has proudly called this neighborhood home, but one special resident has a way of stealing the spotlight wherever she goes. Kinsley, an English Cream Golden Retriever who turns three on July 3, is more than a beloved family pet — she’s also a certified therapy dog with an extraordinary gift providing comfort and emotional support to others.

Her name was carefully chosen to honor her British and European lineage, with “Kinsley” rooted in old English royalty. Her middle name, Firefly, comes from the “Firefly” litter at Mystic Kashmir Goldens, where breeders Christine Brandt of Omaha and Betty Jean Clark of Hannibal, Missouri, specialize in dogs known for therapy, service, emotional support, and loving family companionship. Mystic Kashmir Golden Retrievers is also known for its exceptional pedigrees and championship bloodlines for show dogs.

Kinsley’s family says her standout quality is her emotional intelligence, especially during therapy visits. One unforgettable moment came at Skutt High School before finals in May 2025. Surrounded by students eager for hugs, Kinsley suddenly stepped away from a circle of girls and quietly approached a young man nearby, leaning gently against him as if she instinctively knew he needed comfort most.

While she knows several commands, her cheerful “wave” always makes people smile. She also loves her favorite toys — Mellow Yellow, Snuggle Pup, and Lambchops — and enjoys neighborhood walks where she often chooses the route herself. She spends time each week at Dogtopia with her playmates and her therapy work has taken her to schools, QLI, Bloomwell Autism Center, Oxbow Assisted Living, and the VA where she spreads comfort and joy.

Kinsley has traveled to Charlotte, Asheville, and the Smoky Mountains, but wherever life takes her, she’s happiest simply being beside her “parents” and friends, spreading comfort, kindness, and plenty of tail wags along the way.
