From Flying V to the Real Deal
Escher Doshi plays for the love of the sport but his talent hasn't gone unnoticed
A 9th grader at Portledge School in Locust Valley, Escher Doshi, 14, is also a rising hockey talent. He currently plays at the most competitive level of the Junior Islanders program (PAL Sound Tigers 14U A / AHF 14U - 22/23), which is made up of elite hockey players from Long Island. The team is selected through a tryout process and coached by current Islanders coaches and alumni members. Each year, the team participates in the biggest pee-wee hockey tournament in the world, held in Quebec, bringing more than 2,300 athletes from 16 countries. Many stars from the National Hockey League have passed through this Tournament, including greats such Wayne Gretzky.

What inspired you to get on the ice?
The movie Mighty Ducks.

Just being on the ice.
Who are your inspirations?
Artemi Panarin – “because he has good vision.” (Panarin, whose nickname is "Breadman" or “Bread,” is a Russian winger on the New York Rangers. He is known for playing smart and avoiding injury, as well as being a leading scorer.)
What advice do you have for others looking to get into your chosen sport?
Get as much skating in as you can.

Hang out with my friends.
