The Tiktin Family - New Residents to Victoria Park are Living Their Dream Life
Introducing the Tiktin family: Joshua, Kiki, Yehuda, and baby Rockelle! They are some of Victoria Park’s newest residents, having moved to NE 8th Ave this past November from nearby Sailboat Bend. Due to many mutual friends, Joshua and Kiki connected on Facebook, but met in person in 2016 at the Sailboat Bend Art Festival. This event was produced by Joshua’s pre- covid company “Tiktin Events,” and one in which he invited Kiki to showcase and sell her incredible artwork.
The festival fell on a gorgeous day, was attended by 2,000 smiling people, and featured live music acts, comedians, 100 vendors, 20 gallery artists, food trucks, bounce houses, and a fashion show. This was the inaugural production for Tiktin Events, which continued to grow over the next 5 years into a local powerhouse, producing events such as the Flagler Village Artwalk, 13th Street Craft Beer and Wine Festival, Art Basel’s “Wynwood Walk” (attended by 9,000) and several others.
More importantly, the festival brought Kiki and Josh together, and they have been inseparable ever since! Josh’s son Yehuda was 11 years old when he met Kiki, and they bonded naturally. Kiki became his stepmother on February 16, 2019, when she married Josh on a glorious pool and beachside day.
"We balance and complement each other spiritually and emotionally," Kiki says.
Yehuda, now 17 years old, just finished his junior year at Avant Garde Academy in Hollywood, where he was ranked #1. Two college courses were part of his curriculum, and this coming year his entire schedule will be FIU college courses. Yehuda sings in the choir, plays Tuba in the band, is on the volleyball team, has a girlfriend, and hangs with a large group of friends.
A year after the pandemic annihilated the event business, Joshua reignited a retail business that he had success with in D.C. a decade prior. This new incarnation is called the Kollective, which has expanded to 3 locations in a couple of years. They include Wynwood Kollective (center of NW 2nd Ave), Delray Beach Kollective (center of Atlantic Ave), and SistrunKollective in the Sistrunk Marketplace.
Just under 100 members rent retail displays and wall spaces in the Kollective shops to sell their clothing, jewelry, beauty products, artworks and crafty gift items. Nearly all are Floridians, who also work shifts in the shop and earn a percentage of total sales. This motivates the group, which is really like a big family, to sell each other's products and help each other out.
"My retail game has changed because I have been inspired by what the members are doing," Joshua says. "The best part of this job is paying the people."
While Josh and Kiki entertain the idea of expanding the chain, they juggle their more personal ambitions and passions. These include the artworks that they make and sell in the 3 stores, getting back into music and expanding their urban clothing and art brand “T.A.L.U.”
T.A.L.U. stands for “Things Are Looking Up,” which is an emoji that features arrows for eyes that are pointed upwards. This concept and image was created when things were covid-bleak but light began to peep through. Josh was feeling grateful for having an amazing wife who had become pregnant, and the SistrunKollective had finally been allowed to open and was doing well.
Pre-baby, the couple had made multiple tours to Canada and back in their hand-painted RV, where they performed their music and live painted in front of massive crowds at festivals and in smaller music venues. Kiki continues to paint large canvas work and often gets commissioned. Josh’s art had hung in the White House for 2 years, has been collected by celebrities such as Madonna, and has sold in dozens of countries over 6 continents.
Across Avenue of the Arts and the Broward Performing Art Center, Joshua and Kiki have secured a large warehouse to use for themselves and their artist friends as a creative space. They will be inaugurating monthly open house events in mid-late 23’
The two love to walk little Rockelle around the neighborhood, on Las Olas, or to nearby playgrounds. Although Josh turns 50 this year, he can still hang with those half his age on the basketball court in Holiday Park. He wants to delve deeper into the world of pickleball, so if you’re looking for someone to play with, hit him up!
Every weekday morning the couple travels from one corner of Victoria Park to the other to drop Rockelle at daycare, and they make a point of going a different way each time. This way, they can enjoy the beautiful homes and trees, and check out all the new construction in the area.
"I am so grateful. I love the walks each day. We love the gardens and the little pools throughout the area," Kiki says.
A perfect day for them may include being in their backyard with their cat Rita as Rockelle swims, enjoying the beach, or having dinner with Yehuda and his girlfriend Kylie. Joshua and Kiki feel blessed and thankful for their life and lifestyle in Victoria Park, and look forward to making some new friends!
