Symmetry Fitness: Redefining the Gym Experience for Trainers and Clients
A Unique Approach to Personal Training and Wellness
Symmetry Fitness is a very unique place.
Ahmed Albayati and Shaun Dubash, the owners and visionaries, have created a gym that caters not only to the client but to the personal trainer as well.
“There is no environment like this around us,” Ahmed says.
This way of thinking is very different from big box gyms that are not tailored to trainers. With them, it is all about making money, and they do not care about their people.
Because personal trainers can transform people, Ahmed and Shaun realized the power and influence that personal trainers can have on a person’s life. They are maximizing this in order to unlock the potential of their clients and to achieve real results.
Their brand new, 7,500 square foot, state-of-the-art facility recently opened and offers all of the amenities, industry-leading equipment and support staff to assist you and handle anything that you need.
“We haven’t spared anything to get the best of the best for this facility,” Shaun says.
They truly have it all.
“The Symmetry name came from the idea that is basically the symmetry relationship between every single thing in fitness – which is nutrition, training, recovery and your mindset,” Ahmed says.
Ahmed, who is from Iraq and migrated to the United States in 2009 with his family, got his start in personal training at LA Fitness. While there, he learned a lot – both good and bad – about the personal training industry and worked his way up to Master Trainer.
“I was one of the busiest personal trainers in South Florida in the LA Fitness Company,” Ahmed says. He was working with clients from 4:30 am to 7:30 pm almost every day and would take one hour to lift and to eat.
After taking some time off from LA Fitness when he hurt his hip and needed surgery, Ahmed felt underappreciated and like a “nothing”, especially when he did not get support in his time of need and happened to be one of the top personal trainers who was driving in a lot of money. Ahmed was actually living paycheck to paycheck. He knew there was a better way.
Three weeks after returning from his surgery, Ahmed left and took his clients and went to a private club called Intense Fitness on Commerical Blvd. He appreciates T.K. and Adam at Intense Fitness for giving him the opportunity. Ahmed got really busy there.
“I wanted to be a part of Intense Fitness, but they weren’t interested in selling anything. After a year, I just opened my own studio,” Ahmed says. It might have only been around 1,400 square feet, but it was his!
The business flourished and moved again to accommodate the growth.
In 2021, Shaun relocated to South Florida from Boston. Shaun and his partner had started working out with a personal trainer years earlier after Shaun got a wake-up call about his own health. He was fat and out of shape. The doctor told Shaun that he had acute high blood pressure.
“We prioritized health over everything else,” Shaun says.
Soon after arriving in Fort Lauderdale, Ahmed and Shaun met.
“He is the first trainer who told me like it is and said that I needed to learn the fundamentals. He built me up slowly,” Shaun says. ”We met in the gym. Shaun applied to get personal training. We did a first assessment, and Shaun was actually really committed. We trained, and he had a great transformation,” Ahmed says.
The initial 6-9 months of their working out together was like a courtship as Shaun puts it. “Honestly, I wanted to get into this industry for about 3-4 years, but I had to find the right person.” Shaun, who has been a major investor in three other highly successful companies, likes to be a part of businesses that change the way things are done.
After several months, Shaun felt that Ahmed was someone who he could do business with.
“When we had that conversation and said why don’t we blow this up into something different – his (Ahmed’s) eyes lit up,” Shaun says.
They got to work and found their new place. Most importantly, they established a system for how they wanted the operation to be for the trainers and their clients.
“We looked at this and put it all down from a client standpoint and from a trainer standpoint – what trainers needed and struggled with and what clients needed and complained about. We came up with a plan and vision that would work for both,” Ahmed says. “The feedback that we are getting from our trainers is amazing. That was the whole goal.”
They are taking care of their trainers and have enabled them to run their own businesses and make a substantial amount of money. It is a platform and everything is taken care of. They just have to worry about giving their clients the best experience possible.
In regards to each trainer, “This place is all about I want you to make your job your career,” Ahmed says. “To me, trainers are not replaceable."
As far as their clients are concerned, their success is very important. One of the biggest things that makes Symmetry Fitness different from other gyms and allows them to have a superior product is that every client gets a personal training customization in the workout in a group setting.
With this different and welcome approach, the future looks bright. Both Ahmed and Shaun enjoy seeing people achieving real results. One such person is Vinny Gregov, who lost over 100 pounds. “I got my life back. Never once did they make me feel like the fat guy in the room. They have all been rooting me on this entire time,” Vinny says.
“The culture in this gym is to over-deliver, is to go above and beyond for all of our clients because it is a family. As long as you take care of your family, your family will take care of you. That’s just the mentality in this place,” Ahmed says.
