Meet The Villacortas: A Family Redefining Healthcare in South Florida
A Passion for Care, Connection and Community
Dr. Miguel Villacorta, Anaya, Aiden and Dr. Stella Villacorta
Drs. Stella and Miguel Villacorta recently settled on NE 17th Way with their two children, Aiden and Anaya. Stella is originally from Montenegro, while Miguel is from Spain. Miguel grew up in Miami, spending summers at his rural Spanish hometown, while Stella’s childhood was in Evanston, IL, with summers in Montenegro. Although new to the neighborhood, they’ve enjoyed meeting new people and forming connections.
Together, they run Galt Dermatology and Concierge Medicine, the first combined direct care dermatology and concierge primary care practice in South Florida. Their practice is focused on delivering high-quality, personalized care, ensuring that patients receive the time and attention they deserve.
“We do it all from the heart here,” Stella explained. “We are bringing back medicine the way that it should be.”
Stella and Miguel met in medical school and have been inseparable ever since. They are the proud parents of two active children, Aiden and Anaya, who enjoy tennis and swimming. As a family, they love spending time at the beach, traveling, exploring nature, and discovering new places together. Their family traditions include cooking and outdoor activities that keep them close and connected. Their shared love for outdoor adventures and new experiences continues to strengthen their bond.
A Love for Medicine
Both Miguel and Stella are physicians. Miguel is a dermatologist, aesthetic specialist, and wound care specialist, while Stella practices concierge and lifestyle medicine, with additional training in nutrition from Stanford. From a young age, Stella was drawn to medicine, driven by a desire to help people during their most vulnerable moments.
“I always knew I wanted to be a doctor,” Stella says.” “From a young age, it was the only path I ever imagined for myself. Over time, I realized that what truly drives me is building meaningful connections with my patients.”
Her personal battle with breast cancer further fueled her passion for preventive care, leading her to embrace the concierge medicine model, where she can spend more time with her patients, fostering long-term relationships and focusing on the preventive care that often gets overlooked in traditional healthcare.
Miguel’s Work in Engineering and with NASA
Miguel’s journey into medicine followed a different path. Before becoming a dermatologist, he studied electrical engineering and worked at NASA, contributing to the launch of Space Shuttle missions STS-104 and STS-105.
“It was awesome to be there and meet the astronauts and be a part of the launch of these two missions,” Miguel said.
Following his work with NASA, Miguel shifted to industrial engineering with UPS and helped an aviation maintenance company become listed in the Inc. 5000 as its Director of Business Development.
Despite all of these successes, Miguel felt called to pursue medicine and went on to open the first direct-pay dermatology practice in South Florida. His practice model allows him to offer patients more accessibility and the in-depth time necessary for understanding their health needs.
“I wanted something where you could make a difference in people’s lives,” Miguel stated. “Our core focus is that we enhance human narratives.”
Giving Back to Charities and the Local Community
Outside of medicine, Stella and Miguel are deeply passionate about giving back and making a difference. They are actively involved with Bolsitas de Amor, a charity that supports children in need in Venezuela. Stella is also engaged with local breast cancer groups, such as 305 Pink Pack and Not My Daughter, where she focuses on raising awareness for breast cancer prevention and early detection.
Their commitment to service extends beyond local efforts—both Stella and Miguel participated in a medical mission trip to Vietnam, providing care to several rural villages. This deeply rewarding experience strengthened their resolve to serve others and reinforced the importance of accessible healthcare for all.
Stella recently spoke at the Fort Lauderdale Women’s Club where she highlighted the flaws in the current healthcare system and emphasized the critical need for preventive care and early detection. She is excited to continue her advocacy for health and wellness within the community.
“Healthcare today often feels impersonal and reactive, but it doesn’t have to be that way,” Stella shared. “We’re here to create a system that prioritizes prevention, values trust, and puts patients back at the center where they belong.”
Hobbies
In their personal time, the Villacortas love to travel, cook, and explore new cultures. Stella, a former figure skater and volleyball player, is now learning tennis, while Miguel enjoys playing tennis as well and reconnecting with family in his small Spanish hometown during summer visits—a peaceful retreat from their busy lives.
In line with passion for nutrition, healthy eating, and healthy living, Stella is also involved in a cooking project at the Fort Lauderdale Women’s Club. The goal of the project is to help people learn to cook delicious, healthy meals that are both practical and easy to make. The sessions will be videotaped, and the recipes will be shared with viewers, expanding the reach of this initiative.
The Villacortas chose Victoria Park for its proximity to excellent schools, parks, and their office, and they’ve already experienced a warm welcome. Soon after moving in, they were invited for lunch by their neighbors, confirming that they had found the perfect place to call home.
Grateful for every day they share, the Villacortas have gained a new perspective from their cancer journey, helping them to appreciate life’s small moments. They are excited to help reshape healthcare, one patient at a time, and remain committed to supporting their community with compassionate, personalized care and a fresh approach to medicine.
