Marina Vogel, who has a contagious enthusiasm for life, has found her niche in Fort Lauderdale. Born and raised in Germany, Marina's journey to the sunshine state was a tale of determination, resilience, and a lifelong passion for hairstyling.

Marina embarked on numerous trips to the United States, exploring its diverse landscapes and cultures. However, it was the allure of South Florida that captured her heart - the sunny weather and laid-back lifestyle spoke to her soul.

Driven by a dream, Marina saved diligently and made the bold move to Fort Lauderdale with her two beloved dogs. Arriving in a new town with broken English and little familiarity, Marina faced the daunting task of building a new life from scratch. Yet, with unwavering determination, she embraced the challenge as a thrilling adventure.

Over the years, Marina called various parts of Fort Lauderdale home, but it was Victoria Park that captured her imagination. "Victoria Park," she says, "has always been my favorite place. I dreamed of owning a house there one day." Its charming atmosphere and proximity to all of her favorite spots makes it the special place.

In 2023, Marina’s dream of owning a home in Victoria Park became a reality. It was a testament to her unwavering resolve. “I am right by Holiday Park, and I love my home. It’s so close to everything. Las Olas is 5 minutes away. The beach is about 10 minutes. I have all I need here,” Marina says.

In addition to her new home, Marina's pride and joy in Victoria Park extends to her thriving hair salon, MaVo Hairlounge. Founded in December 2013, MaVo represents Marina's initials and embodies her passion for hairstyling and entrepreneurship.

Marina's journey into the world of hairstyling began at the age of 15, defying her father's wishes for a more conventional career path. While her dad envisioned an office job or a role as a doctor's assistant, Marina's mother championed her daughter's dreams, recognizing her talent and passion for hair.

Despite the modest reputation and salary of stylists in Germany, Marina pursued her calling with fervor, completing an apprenticeship and eventually earning her master's degree in hair.

“I loved my job from day one. After my apprenticeship, I worked for the same salon for another two years to gain more experience,” Marina says.

After eight years of running her own salon in Germany, Marina felt the pull of new horizons. Craving fresh experiences and challenges, she set her sights on Fort Lauderdale, where she opened her first salon on Commercial Blvd. However, setbacks tested her resolve, leading to the sale of her initial venture. Undeterred, Marina persevered, establishing MaVo Hair Lounge in Downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The road to success was not without its obstacles, marked by setbacks and re-locations. Yet, Marina's perseverance and vision guided her through each trial, leading to the expansion of her salon to its current location at Park Plaza on the Curve. With eight chairs and a team of talented stylists, MaVo Hairlounge has become a beacon of European flair and laid-back elegance in the heart of Fort Lauderdale.

Specializing in women's cuts and colors, blondes, balayage, smoothing treatments, and hair extensions, MaVo Hairlounge offers a unique blend of expertise and ambiance. Marina's European roots shine through in the salon's chic interior design and relaxed atmosphere, where clients can unwind to the sounds of chill house music or iconic hits from Britney Spears and the Spice Girls.

“This is a fun environment for the staff and our clients. We all get along, and there is a great vibe,” says Marina. “We really enjoy making people happy.”

Beyond hairstyling, Marina is deeply engaged with the local community, hosting events ranging from Ladies Nights to Hairstyle Parties and Fundraisers. Her salon serves as more than just a place for beauty - it's a hub of connection and camaraderie, where clients become friends, and memories are made.

Despite the challenges of entrepreneurship, Marina remains grateful for the unwavering support of her mother and close friend in Germany. Their belief in her abilities sustained her through the toughest moments, reminding her that every obstacle is an opportunity for growth.

In her free time, Marina finds solace in the company of her dogs, Willow and Mylo, and the natural beauty of Florida's outdoors. Whether she's exploring new restaurants, enjoying happy hours with friends, or cruising the waterways on her boat, Marina embraces life with an infectious zest for adventure. She is a member of a local boat club.

“I love being on the water. It is my meditation, my freedom,” Marina says.
