Selling The Lifestyle
From Commercial Real Estate to Freebird Real Estate Founder, Jennifer Ginsburg Builds a Boutique Brokerage Rooted in Freedom and Community
For more than four decades, South Florida has been home to Jennifer Ginsburg – a proud New York transplant who arrived in 1985 and never looked back. Raised in Boca Raton and a graduate of Florida Atlantic University with a B.A. in Business and Marketing, she built both a life and a career rooted in entrepreneurship, family, and an unmistakable love for the coastal lifestyle.
That foundation began in commercial real estate. For ten years, she worked alongside her husband, Don Ginsburg, owner of Katalyst Real Estate, a commercial real estate brokerage. The experience gave her a deep understanding of contracts, negotiations, and the complexities of property transactions. But as their two boys grew older – one now attending the University of Florida and the other a junior at American Heritage School – she felt the timing was right to return to work full-time and pursue something new.
The couple had raised their children in Hollywood, but were ready for a change. They made the decision to move east to Fort Lauderdale – a shift that would inspire not only a new chapter personally, but professionally as well.
“From the moment we made the move, we knew it was the best choice,” she says. “The lifestyle is truly spectacular.”
Living just blocks from the restaurants and boutiques along Las Olas Boulevard and minutes from the beach, she and her family quickly immersed themselves in what makes Fort Lauderdale so unique. The “Venice of the Americas” offered the exact freedom and vibrancy they were seeking and is where they spend as much time as possible. Evenings might mean dinner at one of the many waterfront restaurants, while weekends are often spent anchoring in quiet lagoons, enjoying the water and Florida sunshine.
That sense of freedom became the inspiration behind the name of her residential brokerage: Freebird Real Estate.
“People always ask if we’re fans of Lynyrd Skynyrd,” she laughs. “But the name really came from how we felt after downsizing, selling most of our furniture, and embracing this new lifestyle. We felt free as birds – so the name just fit.”
After years in commercial real estate, she and her husband decided to expand their business with a residential branch. With her recent achievement of passing the Real Estate Broker Exam, she will be transitioning into the role of Broker of Freebird Real Estate – an independent brokerage built from the ground up.
Freebird Real Estate offers full-service residential real estate – buying, selling, and rentals – but what truly sets it apart is its concierge-style approach. As an independent brokerage, she doesn’t measure success by market share or rankings. Instead, she prioritizes personal attention and hands-on service.
“I don’t pass my listings or buyers off to showing assistants,” Jennifer explains. “My clients work directly with me from start to finish.”
That independence allows her to pivot quickly in a shifting market and tailor strategies to each individual client. Building a brokerage from scratch has not been without challenges, but perseverance has fueled steady growth. She isn’t seeking big corporate recognition; her mission is simpler and more personal: to sell the lifestyle she loves.
In many ways, she considers herself a Fort Lauderdale ambassador. Friends who live farther west frequently call her for restaurant recommendations, gym suggestions, or local tips. She makes it a point to support neighborhood businesses – whether dining locally, buying flowers from small shops, or engaging with the community through organizations like the Broward Jewish Federation.
Her passion extends beyond transactions. For her, real estate is about introducing people to a way of life – the walkability, the boating culture, the waterfront dining, and the vibrant social scene that make East Fort Lauderdale special.
Looking ahead, her focus remains clear: continue providing exceptional service while growing Freebird Real Estate with intention and integrity. The goal isn’t to be the biggest brokerage in town – it’s to be the most trusted.
Her advice to residents? “Get outside and enjoy all the things East Fort Lauderdale has to offer.”
When she isn’t working with clients, you’ll likely find her traveling, boating along the waterways, exercising, or simply enjoying quality time with her family – the same balance of ambition and appreciation that defines both her life and her business.
In a city built around sunshine and salt air, Freebird Real Estate reflects the spirit of its founder: grounded in experience, driven by passion, and always ready to take care of the needs of her clients.
