A Poodle With Personality

From neighborhood walks and nightly treat hunts to beach runs and people-watching, Chester the lovable white poodle has stolen hearts all over the Village.

Hi, my name is Chester, and my 12th birthday was in May. I’m writing this in May, and I think I get to have a party to celebrate - Woohoo!  I’m a fluffy white poodle, but by all rights, I’m human.

How long has your family lived in the neighborhood?
My family (The Prince family; mom, Valerie, dad, Jeff, and brother, Briggs) has lived in the Village for six years, and we love it! I enjoy taking my parents on multiple daily walks, except for when it’s raining. (I really don’t like rain.) I’m always sure to say hi to all my neighbors, especially the little kids and fellow dogs.

When and how did you come to join your family?
I was actually a really sick (really cute) 3-pound baby when my family adopted me, and they saved me. I am so thankful, love them, and always want to be with them.

Is there a story behind your name?
Chester is from the movie “The Kid” - The dog in that movie is also named Chester, “The World’s Greatest Dog!” (Nana loves that movie and me!) I also have several nicknames, including Little Lovebug, Baby Puppydog, and Chessy.

What's the one trait or behavior that makes you stand out from the rest?
I have the purest, loving heart. You can tell in the million pictures my mom has of me by my smile. Yes, I pose for all pictures… My go-to pose is the head tilt.

Do you have any unique talents or tricks?
I sit up, like a human (obviously), when I get treats.

Do you have any favorite toys or treats?
My favorite word is actually “treat!” In fact, I enjoy all treats… But my favorite is my nightly beef jerky scavenger hunt around my house. My favorite toy has always been Lamb Chop… I have several of them, in all different sizes. One of my Lamb Chops is even bigger than I am, crazy, right?

What is your favorite memory?
In 2020, when we weren’t allowed to go anywhere, I lived at Nana and Grandad Vail's house most of the time. I remember when I saw Mom’s Jeep pull into their neighborhood for the first time in like a month…I was out on a walk… Grandad let go of my leash, and I ran around the corner, straight to her, to give her the biggest hug and kisses!

Where do you love to hang out in the neighborhood?
Just walking around the neighborhood with my family is my favorite. All of the sidewalks and paths are amazing!

Are there any local businesses or parks you particularly enjoy visiting?
Since I’m “of age,” my favorite neighborhood spot is Danny Boy. I’m very social and enjoy people watching! In fact, I know how to get there by myself, and I make my mom carry me home every time because I never want to leave.

If you could choose any adventure to go on, what would it be?
I love going for any “ride in the car,” with the windows down! But, I really want to go back to run on the beach in Hilton Head - That’s just the best!
