A Boutique for Pets and People
From the Fur Seasons Lounge to the Kitty Cottage, this locally owned pet boutique is designed for connection, comfort, and celebrating the four-legged members of the community
With her many years of business experience, and a lifelong love of animals, this Smyrna shop owner has turned her passion into a welcoming neighborhood pet boutique that's deeply rooted in their community.
Betsy and her husband Leo have been married for 26 years now, raising their three children, ages 21, 18, and 16. Always a dog household, there's currently three fur babies too: Niko is an 8 year old Samoyed, Michonne is a 7 year old boxer mix, and Mavis is a 6 year old Terrier mix.
Betsy’s path into pet retail began decades ago, when she owned one of the very first dog daycares in the country, before selling it years later to follow her husband's work cross-country and raise her family. “Since then, I have been planning a new business in my head. Moving to Smyrna in Summer 2024 was my opportunity to finally open my shop!” It was a fusion that worked: “I discovered I could blend my business background with my love for animals.”
Today, she is the proud owner of an independent boutique, offering supplies, foods, toys, and treats for beloved canines and felines, along with hand-selected items from like-minded merchants. Not just a retail shop, it also serves as a fun gathering place, hosting puppy socialization sessions, pet birthday parties, and other community events. Think Happy Hour meets Pet Play Dates.
What truly sets the business apart is its local ownership and personal approach. “I own and run my shop, while living right here in downtown Smyrna. We're part of the community we serve.” Supporting other small businesses is central to her mission, and she works closely with local entrepreneurs whenever possible. “I consider my customers to be my family.”
Camaraderie is woven into every aspect of the shop. In addition to adoptions and educational workshops, the business now offers a Community Crate, a take-and-give area for pet food donations. “Anyone is welcome to use it whenever we are open, no questions asked.”
Betsy is looking forward to celebrating the shop’s first birthday this summer, as well as participating in her first full market season as part of the Smyrna Market Village.
With more than 20 years of experience in retail, daycare, therapy handling, and skills testing, her expertise shapes every product on the shelves. “I only sell products and provide services that I have personally researched myself. It’s what I would do for my own pets.”
