A Mystery That Keeps You Guessing
Our junior contributor and movie reviewer, Saanya Subramanian, weighs in on Enola Holmes 3, sharing favorite characters, biggest surprises, and why it's a fun pick for tweens.
What movie did you see?
The movie that I saw was Enola Holmes 3. Millie Bobby Brown and Louis Partridge starred in this movie. Enola Holmes 3 is the third movie in the series. The first movie came out in 2020.
Since this movie is Part 3, can you fill us in a little on what happened in the first two movies?
In the first two movies a lot of different things happened. In the first movie, Enola Holmes, Enola goes looking for her mom that disappears one day. On her way she meets Tewksbury, and he helps her along the way to find her mom.
In the second movie, Enola Holmes 2, she opens her own detective agency. She gets a case about a missing girl that she can’t solve. Also at the same time her brother, Sherlock Holmes gets a case that he can’t solve either. The rest of the movie is about those two cases and what they might have in common.
What is the movie Enola Holmes 3 about?
The movie is about a girl, Enola Holmes, sister of Sherlock Holmes. She is on her way to a big event when she is told that her brother has been kidnapped. She has to find her brother without being hurt and uncover this mystery about what the British people did. Along the way a second victim gets kidnapped and she wants to know who is behind all of this mess.
What did you think of the movie?
I thought that Enola Holmes 3 was a great movie, there was a lot of action and you would never get bored. Also the movie’s plot was very interesting, every time something gets resolved, a new problem comes up. Although it was attention-grabbing, sometimes it was too hard to keep up with. And it was funny, there were a few scenes that really made me laugh.
What did you think was funny in the movie?
One thing that I thought was really funny was the security guards everywhere. They were all supposed to be strong and brave but all of them were pushovers. Like in one scene, a woman threatened him if he did not tell her where the library was and he got so scared that he told her in a split second. Also, it is amusing how they get pushed around so easily even though they are supposed to be well-respected people.
Was there a scene that surprised you?
A scene that surprised me is when Enola’s mom, Eudoria, shows up. In the movie it is said that she would not come because she is running all over the world and can be sent to jail. In the movie she is there though, when Enola needs help fighting someone.
Who was your favorite character?
My favorite character is Eudoria. She is my favorite because she is naturally a funny person, she also cares about her kids especially Enola, a lot. Eudoria can also do so many cool things and she is really smart.
Was there a character you didn't like? Why?
I did not like Moriarty because she was evil and mean to people. Also, she refused to give her victims water for days, and starved them. And in all the movies she was behind all the tricks and lies.
What was your favorite scene?
My favorite scene was at the beginning when Enola was on top of the carriage. She was on her way to the big event and she saw someone following her. She got on top of the carriage with her weapon ready to take action. I like this scene because she looks so pretty and majestic on the carriage.
What age do you think this movie is good for?
I think that this movie is good for 10-14 year olds. That is because I feel that the mysteries are interesting for that age, specifically 10-12. Also the language and action is good for 12-14 year olds.
Would you recommend this movie to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend this to my friends. I would because it is for their age range and the characters are not too much older than me and my friends. Also it is funny, mysterious, and an action movie. That is why I would recommend Enola Holmes 3 to my friends.
What did you learn from this movie?
From this movie I learned a lot of things. One would be that everyone is important, even those who don't seem important. Also that everyone has a purpose in their life even if it is an important job or not. Another important lesson would be that people come into your life for a reason, even if you don’t like them.
If you could solve a mystery with Enola Holmes, what kind of mystery would you want to solve?
If I could solve a case with Enola Holmes, I would want it to be a kidnapping case. This case would be about a little girl that got abducted from her home at night. Also me and Enola would solve this case in two months and Sherlock would help too. This girl was from Ukraine and she comes from a poor background, and her family is deeply worried. The girl is eventually found in an abandoned dungeon, held captive by Moriarty. That is the case I would like to solve with Enola Holmes.
