Alexa Raises the Bar
With a PR of 4’9” and her sights set on 4’11,” Alexa Weaver brings big potential and even bigger ambition to the Liberty Warriors’ track and field team.
Alexa Weaver soars over the bar during a high-jump attempt, showcasing the talent she brings to the Liberty Warriors.
Twelve-year-old Alexa Weaver of Buckingham Place is set to make strides for Olentangy Liberty Middle School’s track and field team. Having competed in the high jump, long jump and various sprints with her club team, the Columbus Cheetahs, over the past three years, Alexa has found the high jump to be her bread and butter, and she looks forward to taking her talents to the Liberty Warriors this spring.
“What I like most [about high jump] is being in the air and flipping since it feels like the world is on pause,” she says.
Alexa’s favorite mentor is her coach Chris, whose guidance helped her to win first place in the high jump at the Junior Olympics. In addition to winning gold, Alexa’s proudest moment as an athlete has been setting a personal record of four feet and nine inches in the high jump; Alexa shared that she is very close to reaching four feet and eleven inches–a jump good enough to score at a high school varsity meet!
It’s safe to say that the future is bright for Alexa, who hopes to “continue [with track and field] for a long time, whether it’s as a coach or as an athlete.” She advises anyone looking to get into the sport to mind their stress levels, as psyching oneself out will hinder one’s performance–advice we could all probably use!
Stroll Magazine wishes Alexa the best of luck in her first season with the Liberty Warriors–many more PRs are sure to come this spring!
