Griswold the Great Escape

At just ten weeks old, Griswold Scharer has already stolen hearts—and a few shoes—in Wedgewood. With oversized paws, a mischievous streak, and a love for his water bowl, this Bernese Mountain Dog puppy is quickly becoming the neighborhood’s newest star.

Griswold Scharer of Scarborough Way may only be ten weeks old, but this Bernese Mountain Dog is already making a big impression in Wedgewood. With his soft, tri-colored puppy coat and giant, floppy paws, Griswold has all the charm of a future gentle giant.

The Scharer family welcomed Griswold after deciding their one-and-a-half-year-old English Cream Golden Retriever, Samantha, could use a sibling. They considered several breeds before choosing a Bernese Mountain Dog. Samantha’s trainer connected the family with a breeder in Birmingham, Alabama—and the rest is history.

Like any puppy, Griswold is deep in his mischievous stage. “He eats any article of clothing that’s not glued to our bodies,” his human mom, Kristen, laughs. He’s also showing early signs of being a true escape artist, managing to break out of his crate in about 30 seconds flat.

Though he hasn’t lived in Wedgewood long, Griswold has already become a beloved neighborhood celebrity. His favorite companion? Surprisingly, not a toy or a treat—but his water bowl. Whether lying next to it, on top of it, or even in it, Griswold’s water bowl is his happy place.

When it comes to food, he hasn’t picked a favorite yet, but he certainly enjoys sampling his sister’s meals. “The other day he tried to climb into Samantha’s dish because he liked it so much,” Kristen shares.

What the Scharers adore most about Griswold are his oversized paws. So disproportionate to his small puppy body, they make him look like he’s walking around in flippers. They know it won’t be long before he grows into them—and likely outpaces Samantha in size—but for now, they’re savoring every moment with the little version of their new guy.

Welcome to Wedgewood, Griswold—you’re already stealing the show!
