Roni the Fetch Queen: Tiny Pup, Big Personality!

Roni as a puppy.
Roni, an 8-month-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, has quickly become the heart of the McMahan household. Standing just 12 inches high and weighing 10 pounds, Roni may be small, but her personality is anything but! With her soft, silky coat and big, expressive eyes, she’s an irresistible bundle of joy who brings endless energy and love to her family.
The McMahans found Roni through the Ohio Cavalier Club, and she has been stealing hearts ever since. Roni shares her home with Carrie and Jim McMahan, their Siberian Husky Luca, and their 14-month-old grandson Cameron. Despite their difference in size, Roni and Luca have formed a strong bond, though Roni is known to be a friend to all dogs in the neighborhood. Whether it’s a playful romp with Luca or greeting new canine companions on walks, Roni's friendly and outgoing nature shines through.
Playtime is one of Roni's favorite activities; she loves nothing more than a good game of fetch. Whether it’s a ball or any toy she can find, Roni is always up for a game. She also enjoys walking, where her curious and lively personality can take center stage. However, above all else, Roni loves being close to people, mainly "her person," who she stays near as often as possible.
Roni’s sweet and precocious nature makes her a perfect fit for the McMahan family. She’s affectionate, playful, and always eager to please. Her love for fresh blueberries, watermelon, and carrots adds a fun and healthy touch to her daily routine. Alongside her adorable quirks, Roni is already mastering an impressive list of commands, including “come,” “sit,” “lie down,” and “speak.” The McMahans are also teaching her not to jump on people and to walk without pulling, which she is quickly improving at.
Roni’s antics often bring laughter to the household. One particularly memorable moment occurred during a game of fetch with Cameron. Still learning to throw, Cameron struggled to launch the ball, causing Roni to bark impatiently. Unfortunately, her loud bark startled poor Cameron, bringing him to tears. While the incident was unintentional, it’s now a funny family story highlighting Roni’s spirited nature.
The story of Roni’s name also reflects the family’s sense of humor and love for their pets. Their previous Cavalier was affectionately nicknamed “Pupperoni” by their son, who rarely called her by her given name. When the time came to name their new puppy, “Roni” felt like the perfect tribute to their beloved pet while also being a fitting name for their playful and affectionate new companion.
Roni’s presence has brought endless joy to the McMahan family. Whether playing fetch, snuggling up close, or simply being her sweet, fun-loving self, Roni embodies everything they could hope for in a pet. With her charm, intelligence, and heart full of love, Roni is genuinely the perfect dog for her family and a cherished community member.
