Power in Partnership: Monkee's of Ridgeland and MB Design & Construction

A story of women business owners on connection, creativity, and collaboration

Three Mississippi entrepreneurs walked into a coffee shop—not the start of a joke, but the beginning of a boutique’s transformation grounded in creativity and collaboration.
After five years in business, Suzanne Ketchings, owner of Monkee’s of Ridgeland, realized her inventory had outgrown her space. When a larger storefront opened nearby, she jumped at the opportunity—though it required major renovation. Suzanne reached out to her colleage and friend Tay Morgan, owner and publisher of four Stroll magazines in Mississippi. Stroll had long featured Monkee’s in all five Mississippi publications.
Knowing Tay was well-connected in the area, Suzanne reached out for guidance—and Tay knew just who to recommend. Tay said, “One of the things I love most about Stroll is helping make meaningful connections for our business partners and residents.”  Tay introduced Suzanne to Margie Baumann, ASID, founder of MB Design & Construction and a longtime Stroll partner. Margie’s award-winning work—featured in Stroll over the past few years—is known for blending elegance and function.
Designing with Purpose and Personality
Suzanne and Margie quickly began space planning. With double the square footage, layout and flow were key. MB Design & Construction collaborated closely with Suzanne to reflect the boutique’s brand while optimizing the customer experience.
Familiar features—mirrored doors, fretwork, and full-length mirrors—were reimagined into custom displays. Even the clothing rod brackets echoed the curves of the Monkee’s logo.
“Every detail reflects the boutique’s personality,” said Margie. “It’s about creating a space that looks and works beautifully.”
The renovation added five dressing rooms, an office, a staff break area, and a content studio. The expanded checkout station now includes custom storage for bags and wrap, enhancing service in a warm, luxurious setting.
“I’m so proud of our new space,” Suzanne shared. “Our team and customers love it. Margie made the process seamless, and I’m so thankful Tay connected us.”
Capturing the Vision
To document the transformation, local photographer Karla Pound—also a Stroll contributor—captured both the finished interiors and the women behind the project. Her editorial-style images highlight the elegance of the space and the collaboration that brought it to life—four Mississippi women entrepreneurs united in vision and success.
Award-Winning Design
The project earned a Gold Excellence in Design Award from the ASID South Central Chapter, which covers Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas.
“It’s an honor to be recognized,” said Margie, “but the real reward is supporting Suzanne’s brand and operations.”
A Boutique Reimagined
Monkee’s of Ridgeland now stands as more than a boutique—it’s a testament to what happens when women uplift each other. From layout to lighting, the space reflects connection, creativity, and shared strength.
Next time you’re in Ridgeland, stop by and see the transformation for yourself.
