DÉJÀ VU

“The phenomenal growth of Sarasota began in 1923 and it brought into prominence various problems of City building which would be faced by every growing community.  Traffic problems must be considered, parks and playgrounds must be provided.

Sarasota, beautifully situated on Sarasota Bay and looking westward to the Gulf of Mexico, is prominent among Florida places of popularity and its growth was quite marked. It included crowded hotels and congested streets causing a shortage in business, residential and recreational facilities.  So a city plan was developed and included the undeveloped area as well as as the buildup sections, presenting a framework over which the city may spread in an orderly and practical manner.  A good City Plan is one that does not bind the city too far in the future but is subject to amendment from time to time. It is an encouragement to civic art, its very design suggests harmony of elements and beauty of form.  These eateries in a recreational center, as Sarasota is, are prime essentials.”

Wow, this Comprehensive City Plan with pictures was written in 1925 and sounds very familiar in today’s environment, as well.  Elizabeth Rose, a Bay Point resident was kind enough to share this with me after she did a lot of research about her neighborhood’s 100 year history. I excerpted  parts of it for this article.   YES, DEJA VU!!!!
