Meet Emery Perrin

At just 22, Emery Perrin from Red Rock Park has already created an impressive path of academic excellence and a passion for helping others. Currently a first-year medical student at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Emery's journey is defined by her dedication to her studies and community. Reflecting on her experiences and achievements, Emery’s story is one of persistence, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to her dreams.

Emery’s childhood years were spent in Sarasota County, where she attended Sarasota Middle School and later Riverview High School. During these years, Perrin packed her schedule with activities that would serve as the foundation for her future pursuits. She was a dedicated rower for the Sarasota Scullers Youth Rowing Program for seven years, learning the values of teamwork and discipline. In addition to rowing, Emery founded the Health Occupation Student Association at Riverview, a sign of her early interest in the medical field. Her academic life was just as saturated, being a member of numerous honors societies, a clarinetist in the Riverview High School Kiltie Band, and more.

Emery’s passion for science blossomed in high school, particularly in chemistry and biology, which laid the foundation for her decision to pursue medicine. At the University of Florida, Emery pursued this by diving into research and taking challenging courses like physiology and biochemistry. Her involvement in undergraduate research at the UF Nanoscience Institute for Medical & Engineering Technology further emphasizes her commitment. Perrin focused on developing an electrode for peripheral nerve implantation, with the aim of improving neural control of prosthetics—a project that showcases her determination to apply scientific knowledge for the benefit of others.

In addition to her academic work, Emery’s desire to help people is proved through her involvement with children’s education. She volunteered with "Kids Count" teaching reading to children from Title 1 schools, and raised funds for pediatric illnesses through her work with the Children’s Miracle Network.

While her path has been marked by many successes, Emery has also faced her fair share of challenges. During her final year at UF, she fractured her tibia while skiing, leaving her unable to walk for 10 weeks. Despite this setback, Emery was accepted into medical school in May, while still recovering from her injury. Now, as a medical student, Emery is excited to learn more about the human body and its intricate systems. She feels that medicine is a field where she can apply her love of science in a meaningful way. Currently, she is most interested in reconstructive surgery; although, she plans to keep an open mind as she continues her studies.
In her spare time, Emery enjoys painting, reading, and spending time with her family, including her younger siblings—Ellis, Ethan, and Everett—and her beloved goldendoodles, Sunny and Noelle.

For Emery Perrin, the future holds no limits as she continues her journey in the medical field. With her combination of scientific curiosity, perseverance, and a passion for service, there’s no doubt she will achieve great things.
