Music Compound

The Music Compound provides an environment to inspire, collaborate and educate children and adults in the pursuit of their love of music. Members of the Music Compound have access to an array of learning opportunities intended to build music skills, enhance confidence, and provide opportunities for social interaction. Learning opportunities include one-on-one instrument lessons, group instrument lessons, music education, workshops, and performance and recital opportunities. Their most popular offerings are for Ages 4-12, with group lessons that focus on music, teamwork, and social skills, as well as for ages 12 and up, with private lessons including music production, songwriting, and performance coaching.
The Music Compound concept was launched in 2016. It was a college project that Founder and Chief Executive Orchestrator, Jenny Alday Townsend, dreamed about for years. She knew she would start a business that offered a place for the community to be inspired and educated. Jenny is not an educator or musician, but her parents were entrepreneurs and instilled in her a "you can do it" attitude.
Born in raised in Sarasota, Jenny is a fifth generation Sarasotan. She graduated from Cardinal Mooney and USF SM. Prior to launching Music Compound, Jenny worked in Sales and New Business Development for non-profit/for-profit companies. While traveling for those positions, she visited every music facility possible. From music schools to instrument stores, she learned their keys to success. She distilled their lessons and out came Music Compound. Once the time came to launch, she recalls sitting on her porch with a glass of wine, pen, and notepad. She listed all the qualities of her music school concept. Before she knew it, she saw two words that clicked, Music and Compound. She pulled up GoDaddy, typed in Music Compound, and BAM, it was available.
Music Compound offers a unique and holistic approach to music education. It’s referred to as the "Cool" music school. Their team of 42 come from various educational backgrounds, including ones with Bachelor's or Master's in music education, while others are self-taught music educators. Instructors are empowered to cater each lesson to each student no matter the age or instrument. The teachers are passionate and love their careers. Students get the opportunity to showcase their skills at monthly concerts held onsite in their concert venue with stage, lighting, and live audience. The concerts highlight their musicianship and personal growth, like confidence and stage presence.
Music Compound’s signature music lounge is one of their students’ favorite places. The lounge is for students-only and allows them to play games or hangout with like-minded individuals before and after their lessons. Parents love the "drop-off and go" environment, knowing their child is safe, having fun, and enhancing their social skills.
If you are a parent and want your child to "find their thing", consider one of their group classes. Their approach is fun, easy, and successful. If you are an adult with a passion for music and want to connect with other aspiring musicians, attend a Jam Session, held every Thursday from 7:00-8:30PM. They would love to hear from you, just call the Music Compound studio and one of their music matchmakers will guide you!
