Most would think it was crazy to have a puppy join a family who was expecting a baby. Yet, according to Amanda Powell, “our home just felt empty without her [dog’s] companionship and love.” Penelope, the French bulldog, is that lover and is already showing the signs of a trusty companion at less than 6 months old.

French Bulldogs are known for their unique personalities and irresistible charm. Distinguishable by their wrinkled faces, bat-like ears, and compact bodies, they are undeniably one of the most popular canine breeds. Who could resist all that cuteness? Penelope embodies all the wonderful traits that make French Bulldogs so beloved - they're affectionate, intelligent, and always ready for an adventure.

Penelope shows her affection by sleeping on Amanda’s neck every night and demonstrates her intelligence with how gentle she is with Paxton. Paxton and Penelope are growing up like two peas in a pod and “they are best buds” according to Amanda. They love to dump the toy bin out together, cuddle, and play. They’ve even been known to share a pacifier, as mom and dad, Shane, find amusement when Penelope takes the pacifier from Paxton’s mouth! 

 

As for adventures, Penelope enjoys walks to O’Learys with her best friend, Monroe, a Bernedoodle. In the early mornings and late afternoons, you can catch Penelope hitching a ride at the bottom of baby Paxton’s stroller.

Amanda and Shane do not take these small joys between Paxton and Penelope for granted. They struggled for many years with fertility issues and finally conceived with the help of IVF last year. The Powells are overjoyed to watch their son and puppy grow up in such a loving community. Amanda is a Sarasota native and Shane moved here in 2009 from New York.

The Powells have lived in a few different areas west of the trail, but 3 years ago, found Hudson Bayou, with its walkability to downtown, to be the perfect fit for their family Southside Village is the perfect place for the Powell family, Penelope included.
