Behind the Yellow Door

This beauty of a mid-century modern is waiting for its new owner.

Living Room

1677 Hyde Park Street.  Architecturally designed by Joan and Ken Warriner for themselves in 1960, this home was considered modestly sized with 1700 square feet.    Mid-century modern homes create an illusion of space, and this home encompasses that.  There is a seamless transition between the indoors and outdoors, but with an emphasis on functionality. Rooms have dual functions such as wide hallways that served as playrooms, Artist studios that are guest bedrooms.  White terrazzo floors are stunning and such a natural look.  Combined with floor to ceiiling windows and sliding glass walls it further enhances the space.

Recognized by Architectual Record in 1961, the home was built by Thomas Cosentino for $14,500 (ah, the good old days).  It sits on a 4-inch concrete slab with reinforced concrete footings; exterior walls are concrete block sprayed with white stucco and rough sawn cypress stained with gray creosote.   The uniqueness of the exterior of the home is surpassed by the marriage inside of the indoors to the outdoors.  Hence, besides the Warriners making it their home, it was the residence of Petticoat Painter/Artist Julee Docking and Artist John Barends for many years.
