Community Support Strengthens Healthcare in Our Region

Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation is the philanthropic partner that helps Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMH) deliver world-class healthcare to the community it serves.

For nearly 50 years, the Healthcare Foundation has provided SMH with critical resources in the areas of patient care, technology, facilities, staff education, and clinical research.

For our community hospital, a healthcare foundation like ours provides the margin of excellence between an average hospital and one like SMH. Over the years, donor support has helped fund a multitude of important initiatives at SMH, including patient programs and services at the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute, critical mental health programs at the Cornell Behavioral Health Pavilion, First 1,000 Days Suncoast, which provides families with the resources they need to give their children a healthy head start, nurse navigation and the Nurse Well-Being & Coaching Program.

The community has been instrumental in the Healthcare Foundation's ability to help SMH earn multiple accolades for superior patient care and be ranked among the top hospitals in the country. As safety net hospitals, our hospitals make excellent healthcare accessible to all who live here. Community support is vitally important since not all costs are covered by the tax base, Medicare or private insurance.

For residents of Sarasota who wish to make a gift in support of SMH, there are various ways to do so. Attending a Healthcare Foundation event, making a gift in honor of an SMH caregiver, or considering the Healthcare Foundation in your estate plan are just a few ways to show support and make a lasting impact on healthcare in the region.

In February, the Healthcare Foundation hosts Rock the Roof on the rooftop of the SMH-Sarasota West Parking Garage. This year’s theme is Y2K; guests will enjoy food, beverages and live music under the stars to benefit Women and Children’s Services at SMH. And in March, the Healthcare Foundation will host the 12th Annual Women & Medicine Education Luncheon at The Ora. This year, guests will lunch and learn about heart disease from female health professionals.
