She has built a welcoming destination where women of all ages can discover beautiful pieces, connect with others, and feel right at home.

That passion began long before Simply Jo’s opened its doors.

A Florida native, Joanna grew up in Vero Beach and later attended both the University of Florida and the University of South Florida. Her career path initially led her into healthcare, where she spent eight years as a Nurse Practitioner specializing in gastroenterology. Inspired by her experiences growing up with a brother who had muscular dystrophy, she developed a deep commitment to compassion, resilience, and service.

Life, however, had other plans.

The challenges of the COVID era, combined with becoming a mother, prompted Joanna to reassess her priorities. After her daughter underwent surgeries to help her breathe, Joanna gained a renewed perspective on family, balance, and pursuing long-held dreams. While caring for her daughter and navigating those experiences, she realized she wanted to create a career that offered flexibility while still allowing her to connect with people in meaningful ways.

Owning a boutique had always been a dream. With encouragement from her cousin, Meg, owner of Simply Meg’s Boutique in North Carolina, Joanna took a leap of faith. After years of planning, researching, and searching for the perfect location, she transitioned from healthcare to entrepreneurship and opened Simply Jo’s.

Today, Sarasota is not only where Joanna built her business. It is home. She moved to the area in 2012 to work at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where she also met her husband. Together they are raising their energetic four-year-old daughter and enjoying everything the Gulf Coast lifestyle has to offer, from boating and beach sunsets to dining at local restaurants and planning family travel adventures.

Community remains a central part of the Simply Jo’s mission. The boutique actively supports and participates in events benefiting organizations such as the Junior League of Sarasota, the Humane Society, Forty Carrots Family Center through Wine, Women & Shoes, Harvest Church, ODA, Teen Court, and many others. Joanna believes supporting local causes is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a small-business owner.
