Leading With Kindness: How Jen Freyer Is Spreading Kindness Throughout Westbrook
Some people move into a neighborhood and take time to settle in. Others arrive ready to connect, serve, and make a difference. Jen Freyer is firmly in the second group.
After moving to Savannah Quarters in December 2024, Jen quickly felt the warmth and welcoming spirit that make Westbrook so special. It wasn’t long before she found her place within Women of Westbrook (WOW) — and soon after, helped bring to life one of its most meaningful initiatives: the WOW Kindness Crew.
The Kindness Crew was created to give WOW members an easy, heartfelt way to serve others in and around Pooler. When WOW President Tracey Lewis invited volunteers to lead a new service-focused subgroup in the summer of 2025, Jen didn’t hesitate. With years of volunteer experience and nonprofit board service, she saw an opportunity not just to help, but to bring people together through kindness.
“With more than 300 women in WOW, I knew we could really make an impact,” Jen shared. “I also knew how meaningful it would be for our members to have opportunities to serve together.”
That vision became reality quickly. By September 2025, the Kindness Crew held its very first volunteer activity. Today, the group is guided by a 24-member organizing committee — a passionate team that continues to grow as more women step forward, eager to help.
Together, the committee thoughtfully selects local nonprofits and works directly with their leadership to understand where help is truly needed. Their initial focus has been on organizations serving the Pooler community, including Gilliard & Co., which supports young adults aging out of foster care; Tharros Place, which provides care and safety for girls under 18 who are survivors of human trafficking; and Senior Citizens, Inc., offering meals, pet food, and friendly outreach to seniors.
From donation drives and meal deliveries to hands-on projects, special events, and creative activities, the Kindness Crew offers a variety of ways for WOW members to get involved — making service accessible, flexible, and joyful.
Though the group is still new, its impact has already been felt. In 2025, Gilliard & Co. honored the WOW Kindness Crew with a Philanthropist Award, recognizing the group’s generosity and dedication — a remarkable achievement that speaks to the heart behind the work.
For Jen, the Kindness Crew reflects everything she loves about Westbrook, Savannah Quarters, and the greater Savannah area: friendly faces, open hearts, and neighbors who genuinely care for one another. Since officially moving to Pooler in December 2025, she has embraced every opportunity to connect — whether through WOW, neighborhood activities, or volunteering alongside friends.
Her commitment to the community continues to grow. Jen has been asked to step into the role of WOW President beginning in January 2027, and she’s thrilled for what lies ahead.
Those interested in supporting the Kindness Crew can help by spreading the word, sharing ideas, introducing local nonprofits, or volunteering when able. Opportunities are shared each month in the WOW newsletter, welcoming everyone to take part.
Through compassion, collaboration, and a whole lot of heart, Jen Freyer and the WOW Kindness Crew are reminding us all that kindness doesn’t have to be complicated — it just has to be shared.
