Faith, Family, and the Heart of Westbrook: The Kavlie Family Story

When you meet the Kavlie family, you’re immediately struck by their warmth, humility, and love for community—qualities that fit perfectly in Westbrook. Luke, Kerry, and their two children, Josh (18) and Rachel (15), have called Westbrook home since March of 2020, and they’ve woven themselves beautifully into the fabric of neighborhood life.
Originally from North Dakota, high school sweethearts Luke and Kerry have lived across the country—from the suburbs of Dallas to Chicago—before finding their way to the Lowcountry. “We followed some friends of ours to Westbrook,” Kerry shared with a smile, “and since then, several of our friends have moved here as well! We love getting together with old friends and meeting new ones in the neighborhood.”
The Kavlies’ home is full of life and laughter—thanks not just to their teenagers, but also to their three beloved pups: Gus, an eight-year-old chocolate lab mix adopted from Coastal Pet Rescue, and Copper and Penny, their playful beagle twins born this past August.
Faith, Family, and Community at the Heart of It All
Luke and Kerry both bring passion and purpose to everything they do. Luke serves as the Provost for American National University and the University of Fairfax, and in the summer of 2025, he brought Assisted Living Locators to the Lowcountry. The service connects families with personalized senior care solutions across Savannah, Greater Chatham County, Beaufort, Bluffton, Hilton Head, and Jasper County. “Assisted Living Locators takes you by the hand,” Luke explains, “and helps you find the most suitable senior home care services—ensuring your loved ones receive compassionate support and a higher quality of life.”
Luke is also preparing to open a Chatham County–based Office Evolution location within the next year, providing flexible workspace solutions for professionals, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. Outside of work, he’s a lifelong learner who loves to read, especially educational books, and a talented musician who can play the piano, guitar, bass, and saxophone—a gift that fills their home with music during the holidays.
Kerry owns The Citrus Home, an award-winning interior design business known for creating bright, functional, and welcoming spaces. Her work has earned her three consecutive Best of Pooler awards and recognition in Connect Savannah’s Best of Savannah 2025. “Helping homeowners, builders, and businesses design spaces that feel like homebrings me so much joy,” she says.
Beyond work, the Kavlies are deeply rooted in giving back. Luke serves on the Westbrook Clubhouse Social Committee and as Vice President of the Coastal Homeschool Athletic Association, while both Luke and Kerry serve on their church’s hospitality team. Kerry also volunteers her design talents to decorate the Dwaine & Cynthia Willett Children’s Hospital of Savannah for the holidays, spreading beauty and cheer to children and families who need it most. The family is also involved with CURE Childhood Cancer, a cause close to their hearts.
Their son Josh shares his parents’ drive and determination. A dedicated student and athlete, Josh loves to play basketball and work out in his free time. Whether he’s shooting hoops at the gym or encouraging his friends to join him for a workout, he’s always pushing himself to be his best. He also enjoys spending time outdoors, especially when it means connecting with family or neighbors.
Their daughter Rachel is equally active and full of energy. A cheerleader, she enjoys babysitting, cooking, and hanging out with friends—always bringing joy and enthusiasm wherever she goes.
An Inspiring Story of Strength
Rachel’s joy for life is especially meaningful to the Kavlies. She is a childhood cancer survivor, diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at just two years old. After nearly three years of treatment at the children’s hospital in Savannah, Rachel has now been cancer-free for over a decade. Her story continues to inspire those around her and deepens the family’s passion for supporting others walking through similar journeys.
Kerry’s faith journey through that season led her to write a Bible study titled “Glory Girls: Created to Glorify”, now available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon—a testament to her strength and grace.
Everyday Joys and Holiday Traditions
When they’re not working or volunteering, the Kavlies enjoy simple pleasures: golf cart rides, cheering on the Vikings and the Twins, and relaxing with friends. Their family also loves to travel—especially to Puerto Rico, where they return almost every year to explore what Kerry describes as “magazine-worthy outdoor places.”
This holiday season, the Kavlies look forward to celebrating in their beautifully decorated Westbrook home, surrounded by twinkling lights, laughter, and gratitude for the blessings of health, friendship, and community.
“We feel so blessed to live here,” Kerry shared. “Westbrook truly feels like home.”
