Books and Brunch: Celebrating 57 Years of Community Impact

On April 3, Assistance League of Houston (ALH) hosted its highly anticipated annual Books & Brunch at The Briar Club, marking another milestone in its enduring commitment to the Houston community. Guests and members gathered to celebrate 57 years of impactful service, highlighting the organization’s longstanding dedication to education, empowerment, and volunteerism.
A centerpiece of the morning was a heartfelt presentation to Houston Community College’s VAST program, with ALH awarding a generous $20,000 check to support scholarships for students with cognitive disabilities. This ongoing partnership reflects the League’s mission to transform lives through education and community support.
The event also featured a moving keynote from Jean Becker, former chief of staff Houston to President George H. W. Bush. Becker shared poignant memories of her time with President and Mrs. Bush, capturing the audience with her heartfelt tribute and reflections on the couple’s enduring legacy in Houston and beyond.
