Felix Yu: A First Grader Full of Curiosity and Talent

From hockey and piano to ocean science and skiing, this seven-year-old thrives with the support of his loving family.

MEET FELIX YU OF WILDHORSE, a seven-year-old with a wide range of hobbies and interests, all supported by his loving family: his mom, Rainy Tian; his dad, Neil Yu; and his brother, Luca Yu.

Felix is a first grader at Chesterfield Elementary School where his favorite subjects are P.E. and library. He also has many favorites outside the classroom, including dumplings as his favorite food, How to Train Your Dragon as his favorite movie, and the pop song Take It Home as his favorite music.

Felix enjoys staying active and creative. His hobbies include playing hockey, swimming, skiing, and tennis, as well as playing the piano. He also has a strong interest in science, especially ocean creatures.

In hockey, Felix joined the Chesterfield Falcons 8U Blue team for the 2025-2026 season. He enjoys being on the ice with his teammates three times a week and works hard to improve his stick-handling when he has free time. Felix is excited and hopes to join a White team in his second hockey season next fall.

In addition to hockey, Felix joined the Gateway Bronze team in 2025. He excels in freestyle and breaststroke and practices three times per week. He is eagerly looking forward to his first competition in Alpine Skiing, participating in slalom and giant slalom events at Chestnut Mountain and Sundown Mountain in Iowa this winter. Felix got 2 gold medals and 1 bronze in the Mid West ski race at the beginning of January!

One of Felix’s favorite vacation spots is Exuma Island in the Bahamas. He loves that his family can take a boat anywhere in the bay and go snorkeling together. Felix especially enjoys seeing coral reefs, colorful fish, and spotting sea stars, as well as walking and playing in the shallow water on sandbars.

One challenge Felix faces is managing time while continuing to learn more about the world. He plans to overcome this by working harder and staying curious. Something unique about Felix is that he proudly considers himself one of the best students in his class, and he is also a talented artist. Despite only learning piano for one year, Felix earned an impressive honor: the MMTA Piano Solo State Winner (First grade).

Looking ahead, Felix dreams of becoming a doctor so he can help others and learn from different patients. With his strong time management skills, dedication, and passion for learning, Felix shows great promise for a bright and successful future.
