The Dog Stop

Owned by David and Leigh Ann Dishman, The Dog Stop is a one-stop shop for doggie daycare, boarding, grooming and pet retail needs serving the Plano area.

“As we started traveling more and leaving our dog, Hope, for boarding, we realized there had to be a better model for people leaving their four-legged loved ones while they are away,” shared owners David and Leigh Ann Dishman. “We started looking at places for sale in the metroplex as well as franchises and stumbled upon The Dog Stop. We fell in love with the structure of the extensive dog behavior training and infrastructure support they provided, along with the fun set up and flew to meet the CEO and support staff. The rest is history!”

The Dog Stop sets itself apart from other dog care facilities by catering to the needs of your individual pet. The staff gets extensive training in dog behavior, enrichment and extensive cleaning processes. The Dog Stop is a fear-free location, which means the staff moves at your dog's pace. “We see the individual dog and meet them where they are at,” Leigh Ann added. “Some client dogs don't want to play with other dogs, so we offer one-on-one playtime with them, as well as snuggle time, story time, leash walks outside and treadmill time. For the dogs who love playing with other dogs, we group by size and play type.”

Other stand-out features include lots of fun activities at no additional charge and a treat chef on staff who loves to bake snacks for your pups. The Dog Stop also regularly hosts picture days, agility, ball pit, puzzle, basic command training, bubble and pool days. “We installed a Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) which is a specialized HVAC system designed to provide ventilation and improve indoor air quality, which is important in dog care facilities,” explained Leigh Ann. “We have 9,200 square feet of indoor space, so your dog can play comfortably regardless of the weather outside!”

“As the owners, we are in the business every day to make sure our vision is implemented and our pets and pet parents are happy,” exclaimed Leigh Ann. “Clients can come take a tour of the facility, watch playtime on camera and our luxury suites have cameras for the customer to watch their dog at night after playtime.”

The Dog Stop is committed to making its community a better place for all dogs. By partnering with Cody's Friends Rescue, they help provide a safe place for dogs to stay until a foster or adopter are ready for them.

Socialization, mental stimulation and exercise for dogs is important. Most behavior issues at home can be solved with basic training and exercise for the dog. “We are happy to work alongside our pet parents to help improve the overall well-being of their pup,” Leigh Ann shared. “Coming to The Dog Stop will help them learn basic manners, learn to play well with dogs (we actually have some small regular dogs that teach the new puppies how to play - so adorable), and stimulate their minds through all of our activities. Our goal is to give back tired dogs after a long day of exercise and play!”

“We absolutely love being able to help our community have a safe, fun and loving place for their pets to stay while they are away. We believe in the health of the whole dog and will always find a way to enrich their pups’ stay with us,” said Leigh Ann. “We love to send pictures and texts to the pet parents while they are gone to give them that peace of mind. We take care of all types of pups - whether they can play in group or needs to play with one of us instead! The safety and happiness of the dogs of Plano is paramount and what drives us!”

The Dog Stop owners, David and Leigh Ann Dishman, have been Plano residents for 26 years. They have two adult sons, a dog named Hope and a cat named Thor. Leigh Ann grew up in Richardson and graduated from Texas State, and David grew up in a military family, served in the Army and later got his degree from University of Nevada in Las Vegas. The Dishmans have been members of St. Andrew Methodist Church for 25 years, sponsor a Scouting Troop and Pack in Plano, and are passionate about dog adoption. David and Leigh Ann love to travel. “The beach is definitely go-to our happy place, but we just got back from NYC and are planning our next big trip to Italy,” they shared.

“The Dog Stop Central Plano exceeded all expectations. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and clearly cared about both pets and their people. Their professional service and kind demeanor made a big impression, and they were wonderfully gentle and attentive with my dog throughout the entire grooming process. I felt confident leaving my pet in their care, and the results were fantastic. We’ll definitely be coming back again! Highly recommend.” Google review

“We have used The Dog Stop in Plano since July of 2024 to board several dogs. The staff is always very courteous and friendly, and treat the dogs like they are part of the family. David and his wife will make you feel comfortable about leaving your dog with them, and will answer any questions that you have so you can decide for yourself if this is a place that your dog will be happy while you're away. I think you will quickly discover that The Dog Stop is all about the dogs and that is why I highly recommend that you give them a call the next time you have to leave your pooch at a boarding facility. You will not be disappointed.” Google review
