Marvelous Murphy

Meet Kayla and Matt Rutt's Boston Terrier buddy!

Murphy is the beloved Boston Terrier of Kayla and Matt Rutt. Five years old and full of energy, Murphy was adopted from a family in Iowa that breeds Boston Terriers for dog shows. This particular litter was meant to be family pets, and Kayla and Matt say they were lucky to get Murphy from a friend of the breeder of Kayla’s childhood dog.

“We actually drove out to the state of Indiana to pick him up, and Kayla sat with him on the 9-hour drive back home, all cuddled in the back seat,” the couple says.

Kayla and Matt say they both grew up with dogs and knew they wanted one when they settled in Central PA.

“The minute we saw a picture of Murphy, we saw his energetic personality,” they say. “We knew that he would be able to give him the best home and life.”

Choosing his name was a fun process, the couple says. “We went through lists of different names, and it was one of those moments that as soon as we both said ‘Murphy,’ we loved it, and it fit perfectly.”

Murphy has a few favorite things that make him special. He loves his frisbee and insists on playing with it in the yard every day. Any soft blanket is his preferred spot for a nap. “He loves to scratch his back on the sofa and pretty much does a headstand every time!” the couple laughs.

If you’ve ever seen Murphy out on walks in Winding Hills and tried to pet him, you might have noticed he avoids it. It’s nothing personal—he’s just a funny dog that way!

Kayla and Matt say having Murphy has brought so much joy into their lives. “Murphy was our first pet together and honestly has made coming home from work so joyful to see him get so excited. Snuggling with him in a blanket at night is one of the best feelings ever after a long day. The happiness you see in him when we play and go on walks is amazing.”
