Teeing Off in Scottsdale

Being a guy that gets out to the golf course every chance he can get, the number one
thing he looks forward to is a golf trip with his boys. You get a crew together, pick a
location, plan it all out, and then count down the days. The trip I went on last week was
no different.

We took a group of 16 guys to Scottsdale, AZ to play some amazing courses in the
desert. Arizona is known for it’s hot temperatures, but we could not have asked for
better weather. Low 50’s in the mornings and getting up to mid 70’s in the afternoons.
The week was set up as an 8 vs 8 team event with bragging rights on the line for all.
Out of the 16 that went, I only knew 7 of them, but by the end of the trip, we all left as
good friends. A few of us flew in on Wednesday night with the rest of us flying in
Thursday morning and that’s when the trip officially began.

We started out by playing Grayhawk on Thursday, which is a well-known course in
Scottsdale. Many professional golfers play there as well as social media influencers. As
soon as we stepped onto the property, we knew we were not at Windstone anymore.
The contrast between the desert and lush green grass was truly a sight to see. Add the
mountains in the background and it made for some beautiful scenery.

The second day was the big one. We played 36 holes at TPC Scottsdale which is home
to the Waste Management Phoenix Open tournament every year. We played the
“Champions” course that morning as a warmup for the “Stadium” course that afternoon.
It was a surreal experience to play a course that the PGA stops at every year. The
highlight of my trip happened that day when I birdied hole 16 at the Stadium course.
This hole is arguably the most famous par 3 in the world. If you are a golfer or follow the
PGA Tour at all, you know what I’m talking about.

On the last day we ended up playing at Kierland Golf Club. This course was a good one
to end on as it is part of the Westin Hotel property. The tournament was up for grabs as
each group came down to the final hole where the hotel was. There were folks sitting on
the patio and their balconies cheering for us as we finished. The course also offered a
replay rate which we all took advantage of and ended up playing until dark.
Looking back on the trip, it was a huge success, and we had a great time. Good people,
good golf, good weather, and stories we will tell for years to come. If you are on the
fence about taking a golf trip to Scottsdale, do not hesitate at all!
