Serving Alpharetta with Pride

Sgt Caitlin Lawrence & K-9 Scout

If you've attended a community event in Alpharetta recently, there's a good chance you've met Scout.

With his expressive eyes, friendly demeanor, and unmistakable charm, Scout has become one of the most recognizable members of Alpharetta's Department of Public Safety. But behind that approachable personality is a highly trained K-9 whose work helps keep our city safe every day.

By his side is Sgt. Caitlin Lawrence, Scout's handler and partner. Together, they form a team built on trust, discipline, and countless hours of training. Whether they're providing comfort to victims during difficult interviews, offering a calming presence during tragic situations, or meeting residents at local events, Sgt. Lawrence and Scout represent a side of public safety that is both professional and deeply compassionate.

Their partnership reflects what makes Alpharetta's public safety culture unique: a commitment not only to protecting residents, but also to building meaningful connections throughout the community. That same spirit defines the city's Department of Public Safety, led by Police Chief Trent Lindgren and Fire Chief Brad Denkinger.

Building Trust Every Day
As Police Chief, Trent Lindgren oversees a department known for its professionalism and strong relationships with the community. While law enforcement has evolved significantly over the years, Chief Lindgren believes that one principle remains constant: trust matters.

Whether he's meeting with neighborhood groups, supporting officers in the field, or collaborating with community leaders, his focus is on creating meaningful connections between residents and the department that serves them.

That philosophy extends throughout the organization, where officers are encouraged to be visible, accessible, and engaged with the people they protect.

Ready When It Matters Most
Across the city, Fire Chief Brad Denkinger leads the firefighters and emergency medical personnel who respond when residents need help most.

From medical emergencies and vehicle accidents to fire suppression and rescue operations, Alpharetta's fire professionals stand ready around the clock. Yet much of their work happens long before an emergency occurs.

Through safety education, prevention programs, and community outreach efforts, Chief Denkinger and his team help residents prepare for situations that no one expects but everyone hopes to avoid.

Supporting the People Behind the Badge
An important partner in that mission is the Alpharetta Public Safety Foundation. The Foundation exists to support the police officers, firefighters, communications personnel, and civilian staff who serve the city each day. Through fundraising and community partnerships, the Foundation helps provide resources that enhance training, equipment, wellness initiatives, employee assistance programs, and other needs that fall outside traditional budget funding.

More Than a Uniform
For Chief Lindgren, Chief Denkinger, Sgt. Lawrence, and Scout, public service is about far more than responding to calls.

It's about showing up. It's about earning trust. It's about helping neighbors through difficult moments and celebrating alongside them during the good ones.

Their work often happens quietly and without recognition, but its impact is felt throughout Alpharetta every day.
As residents of Windward, we're fortunate to live in a community served by people who bring both professionalism and heart to their roles. From the leadership guiding the department to the K-9 team that captures the attention of every child it meets, these local heroes help make Alpharetta a place we're proud to call home.
