The Ferguson Family: A Life of Service, Sports, and Strong Bonds

Tim and Amy Isble Ferguson, along with their six-year-old son Brayden, have called Scott Depot home for nearly 12 years. They reside in Johnson Place/Saddledowns. “We love the strong sense of community here. The neighbors are friendly, it’s a great place for families, and it’s conveniently located between Charleston and Huntington,” Amy shared with Stroll Winfield.
Tim is an environmental scientist with Potesta and Associates in Kanawha City, while Amy is a dentist with Teays Valley and Huntington Pediatric Dentistry. Tim attended St. Albans High School and Marshall University for undergrad and grad school. Amy attended Cross Lanes Christian School, Marshall for undergrad, and WVU for dental school.
The couple met while working at a grocery store in St. Albans while in high school Amy and Tim then reconnected as neighbors during their time at Marshall University. “The chemistry really happened when we took Organic Chemistry together,” Amy laughed. They tied the knot in Florida on December 1, 2012, and have built a life filled with shared passions, strong family traditions, and a love for community involvement.
Brayden, a kindergartener at Calvary Baptist Academy, is an active little athlete, already making memories in soccer with Great Teays Soccer Club, baseball with Winfield Little League, and Upward Basketball at Good Shepherd Church. Tim has helped coach Brayden’s teams in soccer (Great Teays) and baseball (Winfield LL). Amy enjoys cheering all the kids on at the sporting events and is a part of MOMS Gig (growing in grace) at Good Shepherd Church.
The family also enjoys volunteering at River Ridge Church, where they serve in the children’s ministry and participate in Big Kick Camp each summer. Tim is also a mentor with Education Elevators, furthering his dedication to supporting youth in the community.
Their love for sports runs deep—cheering for Marshall, WVU, and, of course, any team Brayden plays on. Golf is another family favorite, and both Tim and Brayden have accomplished an impressive feat: each has made a hole-in-one at Coonskin Golf Course—Tim on the 3rd hole and Brayden on the 9th.
When they aren’t busy with sports and community activities, the Fergusons enjoy traveling. “For our immediate family vacations, we love the Bahamas and Seabrook Island, and for extended family trips, Hilton Head is our tradition,” Amy said. That tradition includes gathering with 30-40 family members every Columbus Day weekend, ending with a big seafood boil on the last night. Back home, Friday nights are dedicated to family fun, whether dining on Tim’s famous steaks and seafood boil or simply spending time together.
Their weekends often include biking and walking around the neighborhood, hiking at Meeks Mountain, or spending time at FMC fishing and swimming. When it’s time to dine out, they enjoy local favorites like Bridge Café and Bistro, Thai Valley Kitchen, and Taste of Asia. Amy, a former Miss Marshall (2007), also enjoys shopping, while Tim keeps up with running—he has even competed in the Marine Corps and Marshall Marathons. Amy adds, “We enjoy listening to music and a good concert when we get the chance," Brayden is very creative and loves science and experimenting. He always has a “project” he is working on, whether it be in the kitchen, the woodshop, his 3D printer or outside. Brayden is also into Legos, sports and is always excited to spend time with family.
Their love for community, commitment to giving back, and passion for creating lasting memories make the Fergusons a wonderful part of the Winfield/Scott Depot community.
