Where Community Comes to Life: Discover Putnam County Library

There’s something special about a place that brings people together—where learning, creativity, and connection all live under one roof. That’s exactly what the Putnam County Library continues to be for our community… and this summer, it’s bigger, better, and more accessible than ever.

At the heart of it all is the Summer Reading Program, running June 1 through July 31—a tradition that inspires readers of all ages while creating meaningful moments for families across the county. With engaging events, hands-on activities, and opportunities to explore new interests, it’s more than just reading—it’s an experience.

But what truly sets the Putnam County Library apart is how it continues to evolve to meet the needs of the community.

Library on the Go: Bringing Services Closer to You

Putnam County Library is hitting the road with its new Mobile Library Unit, bringing services directly into neighborhoods across the county. While it may not look like the traditional bookmobile of years past, its mission remains the same—connection and access.

With books available to check out (and some to keep), along with wireless services like printing and laptop use, the mobile unit is designed to meet people where they are. It also offers activities and resources for students of all ages, including mindfulness exercises and educational crafts.

Through partnerships with local organizations, the library is expanding its reach through Care-a-Van stops, ensuring more residents can benefit from everything the library has to offer.

This initiative is part of a larger commitment to accessibility—recognizing that transportation, schedules, and life demands can sometimes make it difficult to visit a physical branch. Plans are also underway to expand services to include home-bound delivery, senior centers, community events, and more.

More Than Books: A Hub for Learning and Connection

Under the leadership of Library Director Megan Tarbett, the Putnam County Library continues to grow as a hub for education, creativity, and community engagement.

From early literacy programs like Story Times and Baby Show Choir to Fitness Fridays and STEM-based activities for students, the library offers something for every stage of life. As families begin to think about the back-to-school season, these programs provide valuable opportunities to keep young minds active, curious, and engaged.
