Jack Herman, Wolf Ranch’s Triple Threat of Speed, Skill, and Sportsmanship

Three sports, one unstoppable spirit.

If there is one thing you should know about Jack Herman, it is this, he is not your average 9-year-old. A fourth grader with the heart of a competitor and the smile of a kid who simply loves the game, Jack has quickly become one of Wolf Ranch’s most exciting young athletes to watch.

Jack plays three sports, baseball, football, and Jr PGA golf, and somehow manages to make them all look easy. Although he has only lived in the neighborhood for one year, he has already found his place among the fields, trails, river, and pools that he calls his favorite parts of Wolf Ranch.

In baseball, Jack shines as a shortstop, wearing number 4 proudly. He started playing at age four, following in the footsteps of a family that loves the sport. His role model is Aaron Judge, admired for both his athletic abilities and the way he carries himself in and out of the spotlight.

In football, Jack is a wide receiver, and yes, he wears number 4 here too, because legends stay consistent. This is his very first season playing football since moving to Texas, and he is already hooked. “I enjoyed it more than baseball because of the speed and the game action,” he says. His inspiration is Joe Burrow, cool under pressure and always composed.

But Jack’s very first sport, and perhaps his biggest love, was golf. He began at age four, learning from two of the people he admires most, his dad and his papa. His golf idol is Scottie Scheffler, whose integrity and discipline Jack tries to emulate.

Jack’s favorite moments are not trophies or big plays, although he has had plenty of those. What he treasures most is being “outside in competition,” learning from mistakes, growing through challenges, and looking up to see his family, especially his papa, cheering him on.

Balancing school and sports is not easy, but Jack follows the family rule, “School and behavior always come before sports.” His goal is to excel in school so he can chase big dreams, college football or golf, and maybe one day the NFL or PGA. And if life leads him somewhere else, he hopes to help other young athletes chase their dreams too.

His advice to fellow athletes is simple and wise, “Have fun. We are young, so enjoy what you love and do not feel pressure.”

With his passion, heart, and hustle, Jack is truly one to watch, and cheer for, in Wolf Ranch.
