Meet Eli Morcos

Eli Morcos grew up in The Woodlands playing baseball, basketball, and football, and moved into Woodforest in its very early years of development, back in 2013. Eventually, he would choose to focus on football once he became a freshman at Lake Creek High School. His first time playing quarterback was in seventh grade for the Oak Hills squad and he loved it, so he went to JP Tillman out in Tomball to work on his mechanics. This gave him the best chance at getting the starting position for the freshman team. He suited up for varsity as a freshman getting a little playing time at safety. Then, for his sophomore year, he moved up to backup quarterback for the varsity team and played receiver while waiting for the starting job. His junior year proved to be something special, as he was given the reins to the team. Over the next two seasons he would continue to improve rapidly, and it began to appear we were witnessing a young star just beginning to shine.

His parents and older brother went to LSU, so naturally he became a big Joe Burrow fan, and tries to model his game after him. He’s a little more mobile, rushing for a good 60 yards per game over the past couple years. One thing he’d like to model more after Joe Burrow is his cool and calm demeanor on the field. That’s the most important aspect for a quarterback and any football fan knows the SEC defenses won’t make that easy.

He would say his best game playing for Lake Creek came this past year against Huntsville. They had a solid defense, were on a roll, and he responded with a complete game. He got sacked about five to six times and still managed to put up a school record 310 passing yards and eventually a beautiful 40-yard toss to seal the win. Against Port Neches Grove he had two complete games, compiling close to 700 combined yards with six touchdowns total. This was no easy task considering they were the defending state champion, but in their two games Lake Creek lost by three and six, respectively, to them. There were clips in those games where he was our own local Johnny Football, and to bring such a complete game against the best in the nation put him on the radar of some of the biggest college programs in the country.

After his phenomenal senior season, both Oklahoma and Texas A&M (plus others) came calling for Eli. He made the choice ultimately to be closer to home and had a better bond built with Coach Klein and Coach Elko. He wrapped up his senior season quickly and is already enrolled at A&M, getting classes in as well as practice for next year. He’s prepared for the grind and just wants to play football. He wouldn’t say he had a number one school going into the process of looking at where to go, but if he did, A&M would be it. He has a lot of friends there and loves both the tradition and direction the school is headed in.

Woodforest has plenty of Texas A&M fans so I’m sure it won’t be much to ask to join in as we wish Eli the best, and all the support in this next step.
