Growing Up with the Weiss Family

Jessica and Nick had just turned 26 years old when they met.

These were the days when timelines were simple and so were connections. Nick saw her on a mutual friend's page and asked, "who's that?" One introduction later and they started talking. They quickly became inseparable, and it didn't take long before everyone knew they were meant to be.

Jessica was born right down the street at Conroe Regional Medical Center. Nick hails from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and like most from there fits in just right with southern Texans. She moves around with a casual disposition, and he walks and talks like a Luke Combs song. After graduating high school Nick began college, and is proud to say he has 12 solid credit hours after his two years there. His eagerness to get in the workforce never let him sit calmly in the classroom. By age nineteen he was already hired on at his first HVAC company. Soon after that, he saw brighter pastures in Texas and set sail for the Lone Star State.

Anybody that knows Nick will agree, when it comes to work, he shows up. Whether it be holidays, weekends, long drives, or just long hours, Nick went all-in during his 20s doing HVAC work up and down the shipping channel. When he met Jessica, a gear shifted and he was quickly turning into a family man. She had been interested in law and was taking her career in that direction, but her plans changed soon after meeting Nick as well, and they would promptly be married.

Madilyn was born in 2012, Eli in 2014, and Gavin in 2016. That year proved to be one of their most transformational as they had three little ones all at once. For a reason they can’t recall, they also decided it was time for Nick to branch off so they could start their own business together. Those next three years were straight hustle, but Nick could sleep well knowing he was building something for himself. The accreditation for your own HVAC company is insane, and it left Nick up extra late hours after shifts studying. Nevertheless he pulled through and launched Weiss Air Conditioning and Heating. Jessica joined in with the admin responsibilities: billing, invoicing, and general filling in with what needed to be done. It was all coming together. Nick was the employee, the boss, the salesman, the tech, and customer service. His first big break came from getting the corporate account Discount Tires, and he took care of each and every one of those 90 stores from Huntsville to Galveston.

In February of 2019 they got their first house in Woodforest and upgraded in 2022. The story goes, their kids were all walking and they went shopping for a nice playground/swing set. While out, they realized they didn’t have room in the backyard for any of the options out there. They looked at each other and said, we don’t just need a swing set, we need a new house that would have a swing set. They knew they loved Woodforest but wanted to look around for something bigger, and settled on Bronze Trace.  At the time, only one lot had concrete poured at the time. Nick loved that the homes were right along the far east corner of Woodforest, backed up to the woods that reminded him of home. In fact, during the construction phase, Nick walked out to the street, which peers over a retention pond, saw a gator, and said “This is home.” They’ve been in that house ever since, almost 4 years.

Their three kids love to run around the house and play. Like siblings, they play together and fight as well. Madilyn’s best friend is Tori Hanley. According to Tori, Madilyn is “very smart, in GT, she’s trustworthy, and loyal.” Jessica is friends with Tori’s mother and 4 or 5 years ago she said to go speak with Madilyn, and they’ve been inseparable since. She’s dabbled in a lot of sports but recently discovered dance to be her passion. The family recently celebrated her making the Oak Hills Junior High Dance team. Eli is more of a wild child. He loves to get on his dirtbike (around Bronze Trace) and go fishing around town. By the age of five he was already taking his bicycle apart and putting it back together.  Gavin clearly got the larger than life personality from dad. ”He’s a straight up ham.” He loves baseball cards, is a huge animal lover, and can leave you in stitches. It isn’t difficult to see how all three kids take after their parents.

A typical week with the Weiss family includes both boys on their baseball teams, a different camp to go to, and three young kids that are finding themselves. They have an RV which they like to use when exploring the National Parks from Colorado to Texas to Louisiana. Nick and Jessica recently went to Hawaii on their first couples trip in a while and both say it’s the best they’ve been on. A tradition they started last Christmas is their ravioli making. Nick’s mom’s side (Italian side) makes a secret recipe three-cheese ravioli, and their kids have learned the art this past year. Now they plan to take the reins and make it every year.

Like any family, the Weiss family have had their challenges. Some personal, some private all a growing experience. Just a few years ago, Jessica’s mom had a heart transplant, and they took her in and were there for her as she recovered. The struggle was a little more profound as they couldn’t say the same for Nick’s dad years before. They’ve bought and sold and moved 11 times since they’ve met, and are thankful to feel like they’re finally settling into their home. They know as well as anyone that life has its ups and downs, but they have built a foundation of sticking together that has pulled them through those toughest times. Nick says,  “We’ve certainly hit some bumps in the road as we’ve gone along, but more than anything I’m proud that we’ve come together as a family to face them head on. There’s nothing more I can ask for.”  At the end of the day Nick, Jessica, Madilyn, Eli and Gavin are just a normal family piecing it all together like everybody else. And we’re thankful to have them.

So that’s the Weiss family. Next time you see them, be sure to say hello.
