Woodrow & Ice-Man

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America...

Hello, everybody! My name is Woodrow, and I’m a 6-year-old male American Bulldog/Hound mix. I absolutely love living with Wynlakes residents Scotty and Kathy Harris, as well as my playmate, Ice-Man, who is a male 5-year-old Inu/Chihuahua mix.

Scotty and Kathy’s daughter saw Ice-Man featured by the Humane Society on a local TV show, and it was love at first sight! Of course, they couldn’t adopt Ice-Man without adopting me. Ice-Man and I were so happy that we got to go to our new home together!

I’m named after Woodrow Call, who is a Texas Ranger in the Lonesome Dove series. I’m strong and quiet, but when I decide to bark, people pay attention! Ice-Man, on the other paw, was named for his beautiful ice-blue eyes.

Let me tell you about our personalities. I’m steady and good-natured unless you get between me and my food bowl! I have a special talent for bringing a sense of calm to any situation. As a result, I receive more head rubs because my demeanor is so soothing and peaceful. Ice-Man, on the other paw, has a special talent for knowing when a car is approaching our property. His bark alert begins before I can even see the car!

We are certainly spoiled, no doubt about it! We’re creatures of habit and expect our routine to be the same every day. We walk at least 2miles every morning and are fed at the same time each day. We have the large spots on the sofa reserved and are the rulers of our house. As for our owners? They are contented servants to our whims!

Ice-Man and I love to wrestle! I’m bigger and stronger than he is, but the little guy pretends that he is the champion every time we wrestle. He likes to wrap his forelegs around my neck, as well as jump around and nip at my ears. Sometimes, our family can’t tell if we are wrestling or waltzing!

I think our family loves us because they get a warm, tail-wagging reception every time they come through the door. In return, we get plenty of belly rubs!

We’re so thankful that our family brought us home from the shelter! Oh, and if Scotty and Kathy are reading this article, could you please add a bit more food to my bowl at feeding time? I would be very appreciative!

Ice-Man and I love living in Wynlakes! We especially enjoy the long sidewalks, fire hydrants, and lamp posts. We are devoted to leaving our marks everywhere we go, and we’re not sorry!

We’re also friendly and welcoming to adults and children, so be sure to say “hello” if you see us. We also love to chase squirrels, so if you see a couple of black and white blurs scurry across your lawn, it's likely Ice-Man and me in futile pursuit!

Gather 'round children and you shall hear
A tale of two doggies with funny ears
One's named Woodrow, the other named Ice
One is black, one is white — both are real nice.

They get along just great
Oh, sometimes they have a spat
But then they run and play and forget all about it
Dogs are great like that.

They went down to the dog park
In the middle of town
And met some new friends
Yellow and tan and red and brown.

The dogs all ran and jumped
They panted and barked
Why, there were jolly puppies all over that park!
Might seem strange; they didn't know each other's names
Maybe just knowing they all were dogs
Made them all feel very much the same

We humans could learn a thing or two
From our furry little friends
Don't matter your color
If there's good under your skin.

Just treat others fair
Live happy every after...
And remember
D-O-G is GOD spelled backwards.
