Easy Summer Lemonade (Make It “Hard” if You’d Like)
When the temperatures climb, nothing hits quite like a cold glass of lemonade—simple, bright, and endlessly refreshing. Keep it classic for an all-ages crowd, or stir in a splash of your favorite spirit to turn it into an easy, laid-back hard lemonade.

- Lemon squeezer
- Small saucepan
- Glass pitcher
Ingredients
- 6 cups water, divided
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice (seeds removed, pulp optional)
Optional (for hard lemonade)
- 1 to 1½ cups vodka or gin (adjust to taste)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup water and the sugar. Heat over medium-low, stirring until the sugar fully dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool for about 10 minutes.
- Pour the fresh lemon juice into a glass pitcher. Add the cooled simple syrup and stir.
- Add the remaining 5 cups of water and mix well.
- For hard lemonade, stir in vodka or gin to your preference.
- Serve over ice, or chill in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving.
