Callanwolde’s Music Under the Stars

From the Spring Concert Series to Jazz on the Lawn, Callanwolde has become one of Atlanta’s most beloved outdoor music traditions.

For many Atlantans, the arrival of warmer weather means one thing: concert season at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center.

I was fortunate enough to experience this year’s Spring Concert Series firsthand while attending a performance featuring Kin. The Band, thanks to the generosity of Callanwolde team, who graciously provided tickets for the evening.

What quickly became clear is that these concerts are about far more than live music.

A Tradition Beneath the Trees
Tucked beneath the trees of the historic estate, Callanwolde’s outdoor concert tradition has quietly become one of Atlanta’s most enduring community experiences — a place where neighbors, families, music lovers, and longtime attendees gather for evenings that feel equal parts concert, picnic, and social gathering.

Guests arrive carrying blankets, lawn chairs, picnic baskets, and bottles of wine before spreading out across the lawn as live music fills the air. As daylight fades, string lights begin to glow around the amphitheater and the atmosphere transforms into something uniquely Atlanta: relaxed, welcoming, and effortlessly memorable.

The 2026 Spring Concert Series once again showcased the range and diversity that has made the program so popular over the years. This year’s lineup featured artists including Piper & the Hard Times, Kin. The Band, Little Hopes, and True Blossom with Slow Parade, showcasing a blend of blues, soul, Americana, indie, and roots-driven sounds.

Drawing audiences from across Metro Atlanta, the series continues to reinforce Callanwolde’s role as one of the city’s cultural destinations.

Among the many guests attending this spring was Ansley Park resident Michael Shoer, who shared that he has been attending Callanwolde concerts for 16 years — the kind of loyalty that speaks volumes about what the organization has built over time.

For many attendees, the experience extends well beyond the performance itself. Friends reconnect over picnic dinners, couples settle in for date nights beneath the trees, and families introduce younger generations to live music in an environment that feels intimate despite the growing crowds.

Looking Ahead to Jazz on the Lawn
While the Spring Concert Series has concluded for the season, anticipation is already building for the return of Jazz on the Lawn this fall — another signature Callanwolde tradition and longtime favorite among Atlanta concertgoers. This year’s series returns on August 28; September 11 and 25; and October 9 and 23.

VIP tables will also be available, offering reserved seating and an elevated group experience ideal for entertaining friends, date nights, or corporate gatherings.
Beyond the concerts themselves, Callanwolde continues to fulfill its broader mission of providing accessible arts education while preserving one of Atlanta’s most inspiring historic properties as a gathering place for the community.

After experiencing the series for myself, it is easy to understand why so many Atlantans — including neighbors like Michael — return year after year.

Special thanks again to Krupa Kanaiya and the Callanwolde team for the opportunity to experience one of the city’s truly special traditions.
